iTunes has stopped working/Quicktime uninstall HKEY error!!

Ok so I just bought a brand new computer that is Windows Vista 64-bit. I installed iTunes and Quicktime the 64 bit version and everything was great until it stopped working. Data execution prevention will not let iTunes open. Here are the steps Ive taken in attempt to fix the problem.

*Uninstalling Itunes AND Quicktime*

--iTunes was successful but Quicktime still left a folder in Program Files, and was still listed on the programs list in control panel. So I deleted the Program Files folder. Now when I try to uninstall Quicktime I get this error:

Could not open key:
HKEY LOCALMACHINE32\software\classes\typelib\{B11F8D0B-BE5A-46E3-9485-EE692A8B2D3D}\1.0. Verify That you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

I tried going into regedit and manually deleting the key. That didnt work!

I also used the free ware program Revo Unistaller, which deletes the associated registry files and everything associated with an install. I did this with Quicktime and now it no longer in the Programs section in control panel, but when I try to reinstall quicktime it still asks me to repair or remove. I've tried both steps and each time I get the same error as stated above.

What can I do to fix this?

Windows Vista, SP1

Welcome to AD!

Try getting rid of QT using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from Microsoft.

Sounds like you have some Vista permissions that aren't set right.

Click on Add and give yourself Full Control.

One thing though, the error message specifically calls out this registry value
HKEY LOCALMACHINE32\software\classes\typelib{B11F8D0B-BE5A-46E3-9485-EE692A8B2D3D}\1.0

But from the screenshot, I look at the path in the blue line in the bottom and it has an added
Wow6423Node in the middle of it.
HKEY LOCALMACHINE32\ Wow6423Node \software\classes\typelib{B11F8D0B-BE5A-46E3-9485-EE692A8B2D3D}\1.0

Does that mean anything to you, Wow6423Node? I am afraid my knowledge of Vista stops at why that is added into the path. Can you find the path from the error message?

If it was my PC, I would give myself Full Control and try again. I don't see that any harm could come of it. The message says permissions should be assigned.

Hey MrsBeth, it looks like your PC is on a network or something. I am uncomfortable giving advice since I don't know what's going on there.

What I am comfortable with is these directions below. Give yourself full control and ownership the the entire C: drive and all its subfolders. And temporarily turn off UAC for good measure - you can turn it back on after you've installed iTunes.

Let's cross our fingers that the install goes through!

How to Take Ownership and Grant Permissions in Windows Vista

How to Disable UAC
