can't use fade tool on audio loops

You can't use the fade tool on Apple Loops, nor can you use it on any compressed format like mp3 or aac. There is, however, a much easier way to deal with this than your work around. Simply select the apple loop in the Bin, then use the 'Copy/Convert File' command from the 'Audio File' menu in the bin, and select 'aiff' as the format to convert the file to. It will change the file in the bin to the new format, and all of the regions you've cut up and moved around in your arrangement will reference then new file and be fade-able.


If you have a bunch of apple loops in the bin, you can select them all at the same time, use that command, and it will convert all of them at once. This should be much faster than your method.

Be extremely careful using this workaround on loops as the timing will be altered.

The timing is altered on loops or files that are of a different native tempo to the session itself.
So if you change the file format and remove the tempo information, the region information won't work.

i am new to logic but wouldnt another work around for this be to fade the track in and out with the mixer automation? maybe im using the wrong terminology.

by the way, how did you take notes out of the audio track?

After loading the loop into your song, select it in the arrange, set the locators to the region's boundaries, hit solo, and then hit bounce. In the bounce dialogue window select the file format of choice (it will probably be set correctly already), select "add to audio bin" and bounce it down. This will record the loop at the tempo and key of your song. Then do your edits. It sounds like a lot of steps, but with the proper set of key commands its a snap. I have key commands for most of the steps.

For some cases yes - but not to crossfade between adjacent audio regions on the same track. To do this with automation, you'd have to use two different tracks, and manage two sets of plugins (or bus them together) - in short, an ugly workaround for crossfades...
