Can I hide my name when I send an email?

Hi,

Is their a way for me to hide my name from a person receiving an email from me? My email address is letters and numbers but when they get the email they can see my name?

Thanks.

Mail includes in the address what you have set in the accounts preferences under Full Name, so edit that item if you don't want your name sent. Mail gets a little sneaky though, in that if there isn't anything in that field, it uses your entries from Address Book when displaying messages in the viewer - this will probably fake you out a few times, but you can look at the raw source to confirm what is being sent.

I don't think you can do it on an individual email basis but you can remove your name from outgoing emails completely. go to mail preferences->accounts, select your account and delete your full name from the full name field. close Mail preferences. now when you send an email from that account no name should be attached to your email address.

Let's make sure you understand something. If you want to send email anonymously you are out of luck. You can always be tracked down one way or the other. Sending anything truly anonymously takes special knowledge and the use of third party relay servers. I'm always suspicious of someone wishing to send things anonymously and would never open a piece of email sent like that.

Do you have a "Me" card in your Address Book? In addition to removing your full name from Mail Preferences, you will probably have to delete it from your "Me" card, too ...... or delete the "Me" card altogether (as I have done, along with no full name entry in Mail Prefs, and my full name does not go out ‑‑ just my email address). Also make sure that you don't show up in Previous Recipients (Mail menubar > Window > Previous Recipients) by ever having CC'ed your BCC'ed or To'ed yourself.

That was the "sneaky" part I was referring to in my earlier post - as far as I can tell (on my machine anyway), the Address Book uses your entries if there isn't a name with the email address, but if there isn't a name set in the account preferences it isn't included when the message is sent. It just gets confusing when it keeps throwing your name in the message viewer.
