Could not get DCS data from printer which is connected to LPR port Error

I have an OKI Data C5200n printer that I would like to share with my PC desktop (running Windows XP) and my MacBook Pro. I purchased an AirPort Extreme wireless router and connected my C5200n to the AirPort via USB cable and the AirPort recognized it and set it up for sharing. My Mac prints to it with no problem. On my PC desktop, I ran Bonjour and it recognized the shared C5200n through the airport. When I try to print a test page, it gives me an error message stating ‘Could not get DCS data from printer which is connected to LPR port’. Is there a known fix for this issue?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Hello there Gallo34.

You may find this error is due to the Windows printer driver expecting some sort of response back from the printer, and due to limitations with the Airport USB port, that data is restricted in being returned.

You may be able to open Properties > Ports and disable 'Bidirectional support'. But this could also be disabled from being changed, meaning that the driver always expects some level of communication back from the printer.

If Oki makes no other driver for XP then I would recommend you connect the printer to the Ethernet port of the Extreme (assuming that the 'n' stands for a network model). That way there will be no restriction with the Windows driver. Note that you will have to add the Mac printer queue again if you do move it to the Ethernet port.
