Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo copy to Mac before import

I have Sony Tg3 camcorder which records onto Memory Stick Pro Duo cards.

I am going on holiday and to save buying several Memory Sticks I will take my Macbook Air. What is the best way to copy the contents onto my Macbook without importing into iMovie. I want to re-use the card several times then transfer all the footage back home onto my other iMac.

iMac, MacBook Air, Time Capsule, Airport Express, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Create disk images of your memory stick cards using Disk Utility. These disk images can later be mounted and will be have as if the camera was actually attached.

Test it before you go so you get any kinks out.

Thanks but I need extra help.
I removed the Memory Stick Pro Duo card from my camcorder and plugged it into my card reader.
I opened disk utility and highlighted the name of the card.
I then selected New Image and saved as compressed, no encryption.
A file name.dmg was created. Now if I double click on it, it mounts as a drive on my desktop.

Now for the help.
When I open iMovie09 how do I import it?

Worked it out. Stupid me didn't have anything recorded on the card before I copied it. Thanks again my question is answered.

I usually do mine non-compressed since AVCHD is highly compressed already. But try it out and it may work for you.

So do i loose quality when i compress then open it back up? I want it to remain best quality. I will take your advise, thanks again

No, the DMG compression is lossless. But, if you use DMGs with compression you might find it taking up more disk space than without, a quirk of compressing already compressed material!
