Without loading any new drivers, my old MFC-7820N prints great as a network printer on a simple home network with PCs and Macs living together in Ethernet harmony (wired and wireless).

However, the scanner function of the MFC needs OS X Brother drivers which I loaded from this page:

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/us/en/modeltop/monolasermfc/mfc7820n_all.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc7820nall

Even after updating the scanner's firmware and installing the new drivers on the Mac, the ImageWriter application could not connect to the MFC-7820N, nor would the "ControlCenter" application (part of the Brother software update) launch.

Both of these issues were corrected by connecting to one of the Macs via USB cable. Clearly this is not optimal for a "network" scanner.

If anyone has figured out a way around this who is using OS X (10.5.7), please reply to this thread.

Hi slubbadubba

Welcome to the discussions.
There should be two ways to get this done. One is to send the scanned file via eMail to an account of your liking, the other using the ControlCenter.

First of all, check your firewall settings. If you're having "Allow only essential services" enabled, be sure to add the ControlCenter to the list of allowed applications.

If that didn't do the trick, you should look into the TCP/IP configuration of this printer. The instructions in the printers user manual are pretty good.

Kind regards

Hey Slubbadubba,

in addition to the allready mentioned hints, do not forget to turn file / printer sharing on. There should also be some kind of wizard with your printersoftware. Does the wizard even find your printer? I doubt you have to check your IP settings as you mentioned that you can print. In this case I think it is simply solved by making sure the software knows where your scanner can be found. Please run the wizard and let us know if it shows your printer.
