problems with vodafone dongle / connecting

Hello there
I hope you can help.
I live in Gran Canaria in Spain and have had a vodafone account for the last 19 months. I have a mobile account and until recently was using a dongle modem (model E220).
I use a Macbook pro (intel) 2.4GHz, software version 10.5.7
When i first started using the E220, the vodafone software was not compatible with the mac operating system. I had to download and pay (86 euros) for software from Novamedia (launch2net) which enabled me to use the dongle. I haven't experienced many problems with this apart from slow speeds and regular crashing.
Recently, I have tried to upgrade to one of the new dongles, (Huawei model K3520). I was told that this version is compatible with my operating system, (finally!) and that all i had to do was plug in and the vodafone software would download automatically. I uninstalled the Novamedia software just in case there would be any conflicts with the vodafone software.
When i inserted the new K3520 stick, a VMC lite disc appeared on my desktop for a few seconds and then disapeared. This regularly happened and no software was downloaded or installed.
At an internet cafe, i downloaded and installed the latest VMC software. I installed and removed this several times with the same result. The software downloaded but the application did not respond. The program appeared on my menu bar, but there were no drop down menus and the software failed to respond or open. Even when the stick was inserted there was no response.
I have spoken with staff at my local vodafone store and they have no solution. Their advice is to go to my local apple store, (in Las Palmas) and ask them for help.
I am truly sick and tired of this situation. I want to be able to connect at home with a little more speed and power. I have been given back my old dongle, (the E220) and have re-downloaded my old Novamedia application so at least i can connect.
Why is there such a problem with macintoshes and vodafone and Huawei?
Please let me know of any solutions to this situation. Is there something i need to do to my modem settings or firewall or virus software?
I do not want to go into the depths of my mac and start making changes without knowing what i'm doing.
Please help.

Macbook pro, 2.4GHz Intel core 2, duo, 4GB SDRAM, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

The e220 works on a mac without the novamedia software you just the need the e220 driver and you can use the built in network preferences to setup a connection.

I have not tested the Huawei model K3520 however you could try the same process just intall the driver for the modem and then use the network preferences on the mac to setup a dial up connection.

see my post in this thread

I wrote howto to setup the e220 on mac with t-mobile. You could use the same guide and tweek it for vodofone settings.
