How to Show USB Ethernet Status in Menu?

Can anyone out there please assist me with how to show USB ethernet status in menu bar. I have done this in the past - works fine for airport, bluetooth, etc. - but for some reason the option is not displayed in the network preferences pane for USB ethernet!

Thank you in advance.

USB or Ethernet? Why does the network pane clearly state "USB Ethernet is currently active..."?

post a screenshot please. as mentioned there is no such thing as "USB ethertnet". there is USB and there is ethernet. also, neither has an option to put anything in the menu bar.

post a screenshot please. as mentioned there is no such thing as "USB internet". there is USB and there is internet. also, neither has an option to put anything in the menu bar.

I am guessing that he is referring to a wireless USB Internet stick.

possibly. a screenshot would clear that up.

I agree which is why it's only a guess. 🙂

I know that some phone services such as VodaPhone provide such a USB Stick for fully untethered connections.

how about leaving the personal stuff out?
so that explains it and the OP is using a USB to ethernet adapter for MBA. I don't believe there is a menu extra for that.

Thanks all! That answered my question. Correct, I use a MBA with a USB to ethernet adapter - should have specified that in my question. Too bad there is no menu bar option. Oh well, only a very minor inconvenience to have to open the network preference pane.

IMO, a totally uncalled for remark. Please do not discuss posters in a public forum.

Exactly what did I post that has gotten you all riled up?

one last thing. it's possible even though highly unlikely that there is a menu extra item for that adapter that's present on MBA installs of leopard but not on other versions of leopard. I don't have an MBA and can't check if this is the case. look in /System/Library/coreservices/menu extras. all available menu extras from apple are there (double-click one to add it to the menu bar). see if there is a menu extra item for a USB to ethernet adapter there.
