iPhone Volume Lock

Is there a way to lock the external volume button, so the volume cannot be changed when the phone is locked? My armband tends to adjust the volume during workouts when the phone is locked.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

no, this functionality is not available. there is no 'hold' button on the iPhone, and as the other poster discussed, you can change the volume while playing music and the screen is locked, but no other time. 99% of the users would find that the iPhone would be incredibly annoying to use if you had to take it out of your pocket just to change the volume levels.

can you adjust your arm band so it is not so close to the volume level controls?

karenvb, i have a Sena case for my iPhone, and i have never accidentally changed the controls while walking, working out, etc. i also grab my iPhone by the front and back when taking it out, so i don't hit the volume controls at all.

I love it when people make up statistics to justify their argument. And thats the other thing, why is it an argument. It is a genuine request. This is my first day with my iphone 3gs and its a lovely little phone so far, has its good and bad bits like every other phone. I plugged my headphones in on the way home from work and put it in my pocket only to find that if i wasnt careful the volume went up and down. (no i havent got a case) So how about a hmmm yeh I can see your point and maybe a function to disable the hardware volume if the user so desired would be a good feature!
