Macbook Pro, wireless issues

What router are you using?

PLEASE tell me what you did to solve the issue. I've got a linksys 150n using dd-wrt, and am having no end to my connection problems. HELP.

I am also having problems connecting my new 15" pro to my existing linksys router. The rest of the computers in my home are PCs and connected to the internet with no problems. My pro says that it is connected to the wireless network, but when I look at the network preferences there is no IP address assigned to my computer from the router. Does anyone know if this is a common problem that can be fixed? Thank you!

I just purchased a brand new MBP - 2.8 from the Apple Store. The Wireless is really bad!!!

My old Macbook Pro would connect to my Apple Time Machine (N only) from anywhere in the house. Now, this system drops connections and has timeouts all the time, even from 20 feet way.

I have compared the two, sitting next to one another and the MBP 2.33 is rock solid.

Something is just not right yet ... hopefully will send a fix.

I have perhaps a similar problem, albeit on an older MacBook Pro (about 4 yrs old).

The wireless had a few problems about a year ago, but it has been working well over many months now. This weekend, it has started having difficulty connecting to the wireless router after booting the laptop, or after waking from sleep or standby.

If I go through the process in Network Preferences of re-specifying the network and telling the laptop to remember it, it seems to work fine until it is switched off or goes to sleep - I then have to repeat the specifying process.

It seems to have less trouble if something else (other computer, iPhone) is already using the wireless network, and it connects OK if the router broadcasts its SSD, which I usually have switched off.

I have restarted the router and computers, but this oddity remains. I wonder whether trashing the relevant preferences file would help - does anyone know the correct file to trash, please?

I am also having problems with my 4 month old Macbook Pro. It was working fine with no problems.
The problems seemed to start when I loaded on the latest version of i-Life and have been having problems with the Wi-Fi dropping the internet connection (whilst still showing all bars in the icon) with the Broadband router since. E-mails seem to be slower going as well.

My old 17" Powerbook works fine with the same router and seems to be doing everything quicker.
Before the i-life upgrade it was all working well and easily beat the 17' at just about any task.

Any suggestions on how this might be resolved?

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having these problems...Just bought a MBP 13/2.26 (July 1), and I'm having the same wireless connection issues. Recently noticed it using the hotel wireless. One time, I figure it's the hotel..but now it's happened several times, at several different hotels. It connects with no issues for a few minutes, but then signal strength rapidly degrades, and then the connection starts to hang.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well I have been search for weeks for a solution for my Macbook Pro wireless issues as well, and have yet to find anything to make a difference besides just plugging my mbp into the router with an ethernet cable when I need to do any meaningful network activity like syncing my Apple TV. I purchased my MBP 15" last year as a brand new previous generation special when the new ones had just come out, thinking I was getting a decent deal. Like everyone else, if I am not on top of my wireless router - data throughput, internet or syncing is horribly painful. Side by side comparisons to four other non-Mac laptops and pcs in the house show that its just the MBP that has issues. The Genius Bar even did a side by side with a similiar looking MBP (can't say for sure it was the same one) and found mine to have inferior reception. Applecare just replaced my airport card last week, and I spent all day trying to convince myself that it wasn't actually worse ! BUT IT WAS !!! My buddy that works at the apple store tells me to keep sending it back. I don't know what ***** more, having a laptop that is NOT mobile, or risky the send to applecare again. Thank God for the plastic shield on my MBP -- there was a huge scratch on it. I also had the optical drive replaced while it was in -- could never burn a dvd -- can't calibrate laser error message, haven't tried it yet.

I am using the exact same Linksys WRT-54G router and also getting very weak speeds, even though the connection is at full. My iPod Touch can connect just fine, my desktop PC can download up to 250kbps, but ever since i got my MBP (last week) my PC speed decreases drastically (down to 50kbps or lower) and my MBP is downloading as low as 5kbps, even when connected via ethernet cable. at first i thought it had to do with my router, but after reading similar problems here i am beginning to think it is some kind of factory error...

On my brandnew MBP 13" it's not really the wireless which doesn't connect. It drops the inhouse server after every sleep, or when the screensaver did launch for a while.

Having all items on the network from apple (Timecapsule, Airport Express) with the latest firmware (yesterday), can't tell it's the network stuff. Anyhow 5 Macs running on it without any problems. Can wake up the white laptop after a whole night and he finds the airport and the server. MBP not.

All other forums show the same tendency, that MBP has a problem!

Anyone out there who has a solution?

Mine is behaving much better now that I have switched ON the 'broadcast SSID' on the router. A good connection is then established after sleep/wake, and on switching on the MacBook. Once it's connected, there's nothing wrong with speed, signal or connectivity.

Bizarrely, however, even if the MacBook is already connected and working fine, if I switch OFF the 'broadcast SSID' the MacBook disconnects instantly. This didn't happen before last weekend and I can't think of anything I've changed in the network settings. (I did change email account settings around the time that this fault occurred.) Other connections e.g. iPhone are not affected like this.

I wonder whether it's something to do with the way the MacBook handles the keys and encryption. In case it helps anyone with diagnosis, I'm using channel 11, WPA2, and AES.
