Memos - Palm data transfer?

Just bought a new iPhone 3G (from Palm Treo 700)

Looking for an iPhone (or 3rd party) application that is able to:
1. transfer 1000's of memos from a dozen different categories from my Palm to my iPhone, &
2. add new memos & categories directly into iPhone.

17" core Duo laptop, Mac OS X (10.5.7), Apple user since 1983

Notes (from Mail and Outlook, I think) are supposed to be syncing with OS 3.0. ToDos still seem unsupported.

But there are a number of third-party options for syncing notes--for instance, check out Evernote. Zenbe Lists does to-do sync from web to phone. You might have to change your workflow a bit, but you should be able to find something that works for you.

Replying to myself ... here...

I sent Appigo a note as I recalled that at one time they were working on a direct sync. from Outlook to iPhone for ToDo list. Here is the response I received:

+Thank you for your interest in our applications. We do plan on providing a version of Appigo Sync that works in windows and allows synchronization of tasks with Outlook. We have an initial prototype and plan to release it in the coming months.+

So ... no hard date but it is at least underway...

If you want to abandon your Palm (i.e. manually sync legacy Palm notes ONCE) and stay with the iPhone OS 3.0, look at PhoneView from www.ecamm.com. You can manually add (dozens at a time, maybe hundreds?) of .TXT notes from Palm Desktop or MarkSpace NoteBook.

Just click "apply" and after a few minutes (without iPhone reboot, which previous version of PhoneView did) you have all your notes on the iPhone.

New notes created on the iPhone will synch going forward. There are no categories of notes, but the Spotlight search on the iPhone makes this less critical.

I am not an iPhone user, but an iPod Touch user. I just posted a message on the iPod Touch forum that may be of interest to those trying to migrate Memos from Palm Desktop on a Mac to their iPhone (URL link below). I successfully moved 3,476 Memos into iDatabase Mobile which has search features that are better than those in the Mac Desktop version of Palm.

I thought I'd jump into this Topic/Thread instead of starting a separate one, or do you think I should? This one seems pretty related!:) Thanks in advance for your help!

I am on Palm Treo 700P, Palm Desktop, Mac OS 10.4.11. I am trying to move to iPhone and it hard! Wish Apple made it a lot easier than having to play Detective! Not much help at Apple Stores either!

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2119486&tstart=0 is nice, but I am reluctant to put my Memos inside another 3rd application and be trapped again in some Proprietary situation...

http://www.idata3.com/iDataMobile.html as previously mentioned doesn't inspire me much, judging by their site... Qs:

How long have they been around?
How big are they? Or is it 1 or 2 guys trying to answer emails somewhere outside US?
How can I know if they don't go out of business!
I want to be able to move my Data, have it Free, so that I can pick the best application for it...

This is my email to the developer of MacNoteTaker:

----------------
I just discovered MacNoteTaker and I hope to hear back from you! http://homepage.mac.com/wis/Personal/programs/NoteTaker/NoteTaker.html

I am very eager to buy iPhone, but there seems to be no easy way to transfer Memos from my Palm Treo 700p to iPhone! I am in NYC Area and people at Apple Store didn't know much about that...

Missing Sync doesn't do USB Sync, WiFi Only! Ever Note is too Cloud, and requires Internet Connection. Bento is not ready for Prime Time, I was told.

The closest I've come to solving this is PhoneView, http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/instructions.html but there is no way to Convert my 2,600 Memos into Individual Text Files. Copy and Paste each would take too long. Even if I did that, it would only sync the Yellow Notes on iPhone to Yellow To Do Notes in Mail.

I am yet to try MacNoteTaker Conduit http://homepage.mac.com/wis/Personal/programs/NoteTaker/NoteTaker.html which will promises to Import my Memos on the Treo and split them into into Memo = Separate Text File, which then Syncs to my Mac!

Once on my Mac as Memo = Separate Text File, I can drop them in Phone View and that gets them into my Yellow Notes on iPhone and Mail on Mac.

My former Palm Desktop-Treo Memo will still be trapped in Mail on Mac, and each Memo can't be associated with a Contact, ala Palm Desktop or even Entourage, and one can't assign Tags, Categories to those Yellow Memos on both Mac and iPhone!!

Supposedly, Bento would attach the Memos/or Notes to Contacts or Calendar Events, but the folks at Apple Store didn't know much about it, and were less than enthusiastic about even talking about Bento...

I do have Office 2004 on my Mac, but I use it's Entourage component mostly for email, and all my PIM stuff is still in Palm Desktop. Office 2008 is still out there, and then Next Office is coming in the Fall of 2010, but I am reluctant to try to work with Office, Mobile Me, Mac and iPhone. I suspect that I'd be safer if it's all Apple Apps trying to talk to each other, and that I'd get a better support that way!

Right now I am on Powerbook G4, 10.4.11, syncing Treo to Palm Desktop. I am waiting to buy the next MacBook Pro 17' and iPhone then. I am trying to plan an easy "escape from Palm".

If I do I start using MacNoteTaker now, I still want to use my Palm Desktop as my preferred Memo UI until I own iPhone, then after I run MacNoteTaker, I'll switch to iPhone + Mail UI.

What I'd like is to have my Memos PORTABLE, not in any proprietary format, so that I can access them in different apps on Mac and iPhone and see what works best!

Another Q is how many Yellow Memos/Notes can one have on iPhone and on Mac? Is there a limit? What is the Maximum Size for each of those Notes?

In 1999, I bought my Palm IIIx, then Tungsten T3, then Treo 700p. All that was in response to Steve Jobs' talking about the Digital Lifestyle.

Now, 2 years since iPhone went on Sale, hardly anyone knows how to get my Memos from Treo onto iPhone. And I am an hardly a newbie! So, where does that leave a regular Joe Consumer?!

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this, and I'd appreciate any and all suggestions! I'll wait for your reply, to make sure you are still there:), and then I'd like to ask you a few Q's re: How do I use it? Paragraph on this page:

http://homepage.mac.com/wis/Personal/programs/NoteTaker/NoteTaker.html

Of course, all of the above kind of assumes that you have migrated to iPhone, or at least dealt with that topic!

Thanks in advance for your help...
