iPod Touch Screen Faulty

There is a small area on my screen that is not responding to touch. I am not able to use the '1' or 'Q' buttons. I sent my iPod to the Apple Company and they returned it with a letter that basically stated they didn't do anything to it because the problem "was not important". I have had this problem ever since I bought it (brand new, might I add) and I've only had it for about a month. I've also done the "Five R's" about twenty times with no luck. Is there anything else I can do? I certainly hope I didn't just blow $230.

Well here's the part of the letter that I was referring to, word for word:

"Enclosed you will find your original iPod product. Of the issue(s) reported concerning your iPod product, one or more were found to be within Apple's specifications for acceptable performance, usability, and/or functionality."

To me, this sounds like they're saying my inablity to use the '1' and 'Q' keys isn't an issue and they didn't feel the need to fix it. The letter goes on to say that I should try the "Five R's" or redownload iTunes, which I've done several times.
