Google Notifier and Keychain access?

Are there any security problems with giving Google Notifier access to Keychain?

The Google Notifier I have been using for months using popped up a couple of windows claiming it had been modified and asked for access to Keychain. I didn't do anything to update the program so I denied it access. I then checked the created and modified dates which both showed as May 18, 2009. I threw my current Google Notifier in the trash and downloaded a new version. It asked for access to Keychain which I denied but it seems to work anyway, including loading my Gmail inbox. The created date on the new program is July 27, 2006 and modified date is May 18, 2009.

I got the same issue today, on two Macs, so maybe something happened recently?
I denied it access, relocated the app, downloaded a new copy, did a binary comparison of the two and found no differences between the app bundles.

It reads:
The "Google Notifier" software on your computer has changed and wants to access your keychain. Do you want to allow this? This change is permanent and affects all keychain items used by this software.
