Converting Logic 7 project (.Iso) into Logic 8 project (.logic)

I've only upgraded from 7 to 8 yesterday, but so far all my old Songs have updated perfectly. What happens when you try it?

Presumably you can open the old Song, but if not then there's an old trick to make life easier: +"Get Info" (Command-I)+ on one of your Logic 7 Songs in the Finder, & change +"Open with…"+ to Logic (i.e., 8). Then click on the +"Change All…"+ button. Once you've okay-ed that, all your Logic 7 Songs will open in Logic 8 from now on (unless you change it back again, of course).

Anyway, if that's not the problem, then what is going wrong?

If it's to do with hardware setup, then +Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup+ is the first place to look.

I suspect your LSO file is probably a Logic 4 song, not a Logic 7 song.

You can't load these into LP8 directly.

As I say, it's most likely an LP4 song.

If you ask nicely, perhaps someone with LP7 might convert the song into LP8 format for you...

Interesting. You're saying Logic 7 can import at least as far back as Logic 4 (PC), but that in Logic 8 all that compatibility grinds to a halt? — And I just upgraded yesterday! (Still have 7 as well, though…)

If the Logic Song in question is just MIDI (no Audio Files), then it would surely be fairly simple to email it to someone with 7, who could convert it & email it back (preferably compressed each time).

I'm not volunteering — just yet. I'll wait & see what happens next!

LP7 loads LP 4.x songs up to 7.x
LP8 officially loads LP 5.x songs up to 8.x (it officially does not support the old LP 4.x song format).

However, there are issues with some LP 5 -> 6 songs where LP8 won't open them either (it complains and says please convert them with LP 7) so compatibility is not guaranteed - no one knows why yet...

And yes, that's how the song conversion works - just open it in LP7, then save it - it will now be in the LP7 format and can be loaded into LP8. I've done it many times.
