DX50 for QuickTime

I have an AVI file encoded with the DX50 codec. I have downloaded the DivX decoder 6.8.3.5 from http://www.divxmovies.com/codec/, but when trying to play it in QuickTime Player, it does not even detect the video track, and instead just plays the audio. DivX Player and VLC have no problems playing the video. Is there anything I can do about this?

I run OS X 10.4.7 and QuickTime Player Pro 7.6.2.

I downloaded and installed the 3ivx component and that did let me play some 3IV2-encoded files I had, but did nothing for the DX50 files. In /Library/QuickTime I have DivX Decoder.component and DivX Encoder.component. Finder says "6.8.3.5, DivX, Inc. 2004 - 2008" for both of these.
The DivX Player plays the file nicely, but QTP does not.

The very first thing I downloaded was 3ivx. That got the video playing, but no audio.

The 3ivx components I have are;

3ivxMediaExporter.component
3ivxVideoCodec.component

I then downloaded Divx which got the audio playing. Because I have a G4 which is power pc I downloaded the older Divx, version 5.1.1 so the only component I have is;

DivX5.component

In your case you already have the audio so the only thing I can suggest is to check you have those 3ivx components in the same folder; Macintosh HD> Library> Quicktime> You could try Divx version 5 as I have.

A lot of the guys use Perian. I was led to believe that using this could disrupt Final Cut Pro, which I use a lot. As I have everything on one machine (my G4 laptop) I don't want to risk it. Perhaps it might worth a try for you. The fact is, Quicktime isn't going to be able to play every codec going. But with the above components I was certainly able to view DX50, audio included.

Kai-Mikael Jää-Aro ,

Try the Perian Component. it might play your DX50.

Please consider removing obsolete QuickTime Components: FFusion, Xvid Delegate, 3ivX, DivX, XviD, msmpeg4v1, msmpeg4v2, AviImporter, EX_M4S2, and Casio AVI Importer...From Perian Support.

Worth a shot and Perian is favorite in this forum for playing back DivX files.

Hi
I never can find a spot to post a new thread.... sorry but I read the help page and it said post at the top of the subject window.

So I'll just post here. It is close to my questions about QuickTime.. I was given a broadcast.AVI. It played fine on his windows based computer. It will not play at on my home DVD or system DVD. So I dropped it on Quicktime 7.5. It takes forever to start, and when it does the sound quality is stuttering and there is no picture.. and I get a message that I may need components to play content. It directs me to Divx and many other kinds of "codex". things.

This stuff is so over my head, I'm going nuts! I downloaded Cellulo, Prism, as they all said they will run .AVI in conjunction with QuickTime.....NOT! I can still only hear a bad audio, and no picture.

Ever since I updated to the last QT, about 11/2 years ago.... (I think it was part of iTunes package update), I have had nothing like what QT used to be. I can't even find where it is mounted in my harddrive, I've run search after search.

Can someone tell me what to do to get rid of QT 7.5 and return to whatever was before that. In fact I see that it is not meant for Panther 10.3.9. Also I should be able to see this DVd somehow, someway. Please help me figure this mess out. I have nothing in my Library for QT.... nothing at all... Sorry If I'm off subject but I can't figure out this posting system either!
