Itunes, Remote, and Actiontec Router

I have the same problem. Remote app worked when I created a network with my computer, then connected the iPhone directly to the computer without going through the router. I was able to enter the Passkey and access iTunes. However, it cannot find the Library if I use the Actiontec router. Is this the method you used, or did you do something else?

I tried logging into the router, going to Firewall Settings > Port Forwarding, and selecting Add. Then selecting Add again under Select Protocol, then selecting Add Server Ports. This allows me to select the TCP protocol, set the Source Ports to Any, and the Destination Ports to Single - 3689, and clicked Apply. I did the same procedure again for the UDP protocol, setting the Source Ports to Any, and the Destination Ports to Single - 5353, then clicked the Apply buttons. I tried many variations using different parameters, but nothing seemed to work. But, at least it seems to be the place to start to find a solution.

I have the same setup. the Actiontec M1000 & the W1000 wifi, I have internet on the computer fine, the phone accesses the internet fine thru the WiFi. but cannot get the remote app to make a connection with the iPhone to the computer. Worked with Apple & Qwest & Actiontec, no answers at all.

I am in the same boat with you guys and tried everything I could find in a forum last night. I am running Windows 7 but also have an XP machine and neither will connect. The Itouch has wifi access and I have also pinged it from the command prompt on the W7 machine. I have tried specifically allowing both BonJour and Itunes in the firewall, also in the firewall forward the tcp and udp ports. Tried turning off firewall and windows defender all together. Tried ipconfig /release and /renew. On the Actiontec, the firewall is turned off and I have tried forwarding the ports to the IP of my machine.

After all of this I am thinking the problem is coming from the Actiontec router. There has to be a way to put a rule on the router that allows the Ipod to talk back to the computer but it's above my knowhow.

Has anything been figured out?
I have the same issue and I have contacted Qwest but, so much for their "Spirit of Service".
I also just emailed the Air Mouse Pro developers, because thats where my issue lies.
Note: Remote didn't work me also.

If they help me figure out this modem then I'll try to remember to come back and reply.

I am also experiencing this, big problem. I have had no problems running iTunes Remote on my iPhone with with many different routers (Linksys: WRT54G v2,v3; WRT330N; and two Netgear routers) But for the life of me I cannot get it to work on the ActionTec FiOS Router supplied by Verizon:

Of course I unsuccessfully opened ports listed on the apple support ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1741) in every possible place until finally disabling the windows firewall and selecting the 'Minimum Security' option on the router management page; which also +*DID NOTHING*+

I always get the same result: "Verifying Remote Passcode" and then it times out and dings.

I have spent hours and hours troubleshooting network issues...on a network created by an *Actiontec 1000* (with optional wireless module). I have even spent a few hours on the phone with AppleCare...to no avail.

I've tried to use Airtunes to play music wirelessly to my Airport Express.

I have attempted to use Apple's Remote app for controlling iTunes from my iPhone.

I've also tried to wirelessly sync the third party app "Things" (which uses Bonjour).

* iTunes on Mac doesn't see +Airport Express+.*
* iTunes doesn't see Remote.*
* Things on Mac doesn't see Things on iPhone.*

Though my *Mac and my iPhone are both on the same wireless network* using the same subnet mask, etc., nothing using Bonjour seems to be able to pair.

So frustrating! Anybody got any leads yet?

I have the Actiontec M1000 also through Qwest but not the WiFi module. Instead I use my Apple Extreme Base Station and have always been able to connect to my Macs through the remote app.

It has to be in the way that your WiFi is setup somehow. If you unplugged the WiFi module from the Actiontec router and used something like what I am using, it would most likely work.

I'm sure it would work with an Airport Extreme, and I'd love to have one. I just don't have the cash.

Everything seems to be configured correctly in the silly Actiontec M1000. It seems as though it should work, but it just doesn't. I've had Bonjour working with plenty of other routers, but this is the one I'm stuck with for now.

Hoping someone will be able to shed some light on this...

same problem here. is there a port to open or secret with the actiontec?

I've been beating my head against the wall for weeks trying to solve this problem - it's good to know at least that the router is to blame. Please - any suggestions to resolve this would be much appreciated!

Not really a solution, but at least I have a $100 work-around...

It doesn't have to be AirPort Extreme, you can use AirPort Express just as well to be your wireless router:

It's $99, cheaper than the $179 for Extreme.

Anyway, I spent all day on the phone b/t conference calls with Qwest and Apple, and Qwest was no help at all! I officially do not care for them or the service they provide, and I've been using it for less than a month! 😟

Here's how I set it up:
Disable WPS on Qwest modem/built-in wireless router (thru your web browser, type in your Qwest given IP address to open Qwest Modem Configuration, once to the blue page click on "wireless setup", click the circle button for off, scroll down, and click apply). The yellow ethernet cable that did connect to your computer now needs to plug-in to the underside of the AirPort Express (you might need to plug in the ethernet cable to AirPort Express when unplugged, hold a paperclip on the reset button while plugging in and wait for the light to flash to reset to factory default settings in case you have used it previously for AirTunes). Follow on screen instructions. So now you have airport express as your "wireless router" instead.

Apple remote connected in less than a second for me and is currently working. I now have my whole house and AirTunes connected to my new wireless network via airport express.

Stupid Qwest and their ActionTec modem routers!

This problem most likely has nothing to do with the iTunes, the app, or any other endpoint on the WiFi network. It's most likely a setting within the router known as AP ISOLATION. AP Isolation prevents any device on the wireless network from communicating directly with other endpoints. Normally, a wireless router bridges endpoints at layer 2 (mac layer), essentially emulating a hub or repeater. With AP Isolation, this bridging at layer 2 is turned off. Since Layer 2 is blocked, it also affects TCP/IP. Of course, traffic can still traverse between the wireless clients and the WAN port, but not amongst themselves.

I would look for a look for a feature/setting on the router which affects intra-network node communications and turn it off.
