SMC FIRMWARE UPDATE

I am installing the updates suggested for my computer which includes "SMC Firmware Update". In the required part of the restart I get an error message that says "The last attempt to flash the SMC resulted in an unexpected error. Please try the update again now. Internal error Info: 0x80000000e:1200".

The computer now refuses to shut down on its own and I have to force close, which, when re opened, asks me to continue the SMC process. I am going round in circles here. Can anyone tell me what the error message means and what I have to do overcome the problem?

Thanks all

Richard

I've had the same problem. SMC Firmware Update never truly installed. Then I try to manually install and get "this computer does not need this update. A quick check to hardware overview shows my version of SMC is 0.000. So I guess the update wiped my version. I tried to reset SMC while talking with Apple Techs, no luck. Then tried reinstalling software, hoping that would at least give me old SMC version, no luck. Meanwhile, a black x on my battery icon, no light on my power cord, and loud fans. I can boot up and my mouse and keyboard work fine. I also had updated to 10.5.7, don't know if this is problem. Can anyone help? To get to an apple store is 1.5 hr drive. Will do it, just afraid I'm not going to get satisfaction. Thanks, RitaP
