Activating first generation iPhone with current iPhone 3g plan

I just jumped in the pool with my iPhone 3g the day before yesterday. I have a first gen iphone and want to activate it with my current 3g plan. Is this possible? If so, could anyone tell me how to do this? I went to my local AT&T Store and got a new SIM card. Could anyone help me?

You want to set up a new line/phone number for your first generation iPhone under an AT&T Family plan or as a separate individual plan?

You can't activate your first generation iPhone under your existing line/number for your iPhone 3G, which was transferred from your first generation iPhone, and share the single line and data plan for your iPhone 3G between both iPhones. If you reactivate your first generation iPhone with your existing line/number being used by your iPhone 3G, your iPhone 3G will no longer be activated.

If you want to set up a Family Plan which will have shared minutes between the two iPhones with your first generation having a different line/number, you may need to go back to your local AT&T store to get this started. The additional line for your first generation iPhone will cost you $9.95/mo for the line, and the data plan for the first generation iPhone costs $20/mo and includes 200 SMS.

You can either go into AT&T or activate it through iTunes. Put your SIM Card in your iPhone and have a go at it in iTunes. If that doesn't work then head into AT&T and tell them your iPhone 3G is broken and you want to switch your service back to your old iPhone. You probably already know this, but the original iPhone data plan is $20 plus some text messages, make sure they change your plan to this so you aren't needlessly paying the $30 for the iPhone 3G plan. Don't let them tell you that you need to sign another contract or add a line, because you don't. You are only changing your plan because you are using a different phone.

You have to switch plans back and forth in order to use the different phones. Like I said, I believe you can do this through iTunes, but I'm not 100% sure.

Allan, I believe he wants to switch to his other iPhone because his iPhone 3G got wet when he jumped in the pool and maybe he wants to see if it will work again after it has time to sit and dry out, or when he purchases another iPhone 3G.

I have been in the pool with my iPhone 3g another time prior to this and i got a new sim card from the att store here and put it in my phone and it started working. After i think 2.5 weeks of me letting it dry out, it started working like normal. I am just wondering if there is any way to activate my 3g plan to work on my original iphone. Thats all.

Sadly no, you have to change your plan back to the original iPhone plan and activate your old iPhone on it. I do computer forensics and wanted to do my testing on a 1st gen iPhone, and it was then I found out you have to switch between the plans. Why? I don't know, you'd think that AT&T wouldn't mind making the extra $10 on someone using the original iPhone, but nope.

No, they will switch the pricing so it is only the $20 a month and not the $30. You could probably even put the SIM Card in your old iPhone now, connect it to iTunes and change your account info so it's activated. I've never done that before, so I say the safest bet is to just go into an AT&T store if its close and tell them you are de-activating your iPhone 3G and activating your 1st gen iPhone so you need the plan switched and the phone activated.
