something happened and now Safari and Firefox wont allow adobe flash player to show slide shows - all i get is a black screen - no indication of any errors; I uninstalled Safari and Flash player and reinstalled them to no avail. I think it may be related to something that happened to my system preferences - the accounts, log in items had for some reason changed to just three items: growl helper app; growl menu; and logitech control center. I didnt change these; on my laptop - which still works and allows flash player to work - there are these additional login items microsoft au daemon, expander daemon; itunes helper - when I search my desktop of the daemon files nothing shows up. Please help. (I also cant play videos in my browsers)
G5 desktop and G4 laptop,
Mac OS X (10.5.1),
verizon fios router
there was no VLC plug in - so I found one on the next and installed it and it still doesnt work. I had a lot of plug ins in disabled folder so I dragged them out into the regular plugins and that did not work.
If there isn't one yet, create a "Disabled Plug-Ins" folder inside the /Library/Internet Plugins folder
Move the Windows Media Plugin inside that new folder.
Restart your browser, and check whether the issue persists.
As far as I know, the flip4Mac WMV plugin will play back most of the media, the windows media plugin would. I had a similar problem a few weeks back, and I moved the Windows Media Plugin out. I haven't yet found a page that needed that plugin.
Thanks for the help. But that didnt work. One error message I got indicated that I didnt have a MIME type plugin in called "application/xshockwave-flash"
I cant find this on my system nor could I find it on the web.
My Mac is the older PPC (non-intel) and Java updates seem to be for intel Macs
Right along with you. I have a laptop that is working fine, but when I tried to run Safari on my desktop computer through Networking, it wouldn't work either. I have loaded all the newest versions of Adobe Flash and still to no avail. I think it happened about a week ago. When I go to view a clip, it says I do not have Flash and need to install it. Nothing I have done works.
epospiech, you have
plugins.settings which may be a trojan horse:
The easiest way to tell if you’ve been infected is to go to the top-level /Library -> Internet Plug-Ins folder, and look for a file named plugins.settings . If you find one there, chances are, you’re infected. However, since the names used by the malware authors may change, it’s best to check a couple of other spots as well.
I did find that file and deleted it; I had run Virus Barrier before and it did not find a trojan horse - and in rebooting - the same thing happens - no slide show or ability to view videos in flickr.com
there used to be a menu in Safari where you could tell safari how to treat a command/ or what app to use but I cant find that any more
when I ran the slide show - I saw a message to check activity and this is what it showed:
I've noticed other issues with Flash and Safari 4.
A facebook game called Farm Town, try using your 2 finger swipe as scroll to zoom in and out. Choppy an unusable. Worked fine in Safari 4 Beta. ( On my MacBook Pro )
Downloaded Firefox, and works fine.
Tried on my other MacBook, worked fine, then upgraded safari, and it became choppy.
I think Safari 4 final is not playing nice w/ Flash or something.
