You can not "save" anything to Time Machine

Time Machine is an application - not a storage place

Time machine makes automatic backups of your selected data to a specified disk drive and allows you to restore files from that backup so as to "go back in time" to the state a file was sometime in the past

You do not save anything to the application

Opening Time Machine and clicking on an application would allow you to restore it as it existed at teh time you are selecting it

Could you explain a bit more about what you want to do

I think you are confused about what Time Machine does and how it works

I suggest you go through the Time Machine tutorial - http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/#tutorial=leopardtimemachine

I want save a program to my external HD and I thought TM would do it.
I'm a bit confused.
When I plug in my external HD to my computer TM opens and I see the icon on my desktop. Prior to Leopard, when I would plug in my external HD I would see the icon on my desktop and I would simply drag what ever I wanted to save to the HD.
How would I do that now since I don't see the icon for my ext. HD?

Do you mean you copied things to your TM drive manually?

Are you using Time Machine at all? It will back-up your *entire system automatically,* if you turn it on and don't exclude things from it.

There should be no need to copy things manually; in fact, that's not a good idea.

Please explain just what you mean: we're a bit confused, too!

No. I do not copy things to TM manually.
TM works fine. It's connected to my computer and it does it's thing, simple as that, just like yours.
It backs up entire system automatically.

What I'm saying is this.
When I go into TM and look in Applications and click on an app. I get an error message which I stated above. I can click on any app. and get the same error message.
It seems that TM does not save Apps. just files, unless there is a problem with my TM or computer.

All I want to do is save a program in my external HD. I can save it on a CD, but I also wanted to save it there.

Tell me if the same thing happens to you.

The error message I get is this:

The operation could not be completed.
An unexpected error occurred (error code-10657)

You can't run a saved application by clicking on it in the Finder. In fact, for most purposes, you shouldn't be using the Finder on your TM drive at all. Especially, *never, ever* try to move, change, or delete anything that way.

TM keeps copies of everything it saves; the only things you can do with them is see and/or restore them, but not via the Finder. Use the TM interface: +Enter Time Machine.+

If you double-click an app (or most anything in TM), the information about it will be shown via QuickLook.

If you want to restore something (to the same place it was saved from), select it and click Restore.
