DVD disc not ejecting - disk eject bttn NO - restart & hold trckpd bttn NO

I have a DVD in my drive, I believe it is unwritten, as I was burning some DVDs and was interrupted, likely forgot about it.

It has been in the slot for a week.

It will not eject with Eject Button

It will not eject as normally, at Start Up

It will not eject holding mousepad track button at startup

It shows in the Disk Utility panel but will not eject from there either, nor will the Burn button work, to put something on it and then eject.

It does not show up in the finder window

I tried the business card over the disk in the slot, and performed the above trials again to no avail.

DVD drive (2nd one) installed Oct 2008 replaced one that shipped with MacBook Pro:

I have had many issues with this laptop, have had HD replaced and the DVD drive. It was bought in Nov 2007

This is not a toy to me, it is not a large iPhone or iPod, it is for work, like all of my desktop Apples were. It is gravely inconvenient for me to be without a computer for repair for a week or longer, I expect better from my office hardware than a "just send it in for a week (sometimes longer)" and "you can RENT a loaner" which may or may not have the apps I need, but never all the fonts, plus the added expense of $100 a day on top of the repair bills or on top of paying for Apple Care.

Ok I soapboxed. Am very frustrated and stressed, I have work to do and cannot give up computer for a week, but I need the drive to work, I bought 2 drives for this machine now !!

Sorry to hear about the problems you're experiencing.

Try tilting your MacBook to 90 or 180 degrees and repeating the steps to eject. The section of case above my MBP DVD drive is bent slightly and sometimes discs refuse to eject but this usually helps them out.

Did you get the DVD drive replaced at an Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Centre?

If this is the case then check to see if the repairs are covered by warranty. As the drive is less than 12 months old, you may be entitled to have it changed under warranty. Although the laptop is out of warranty, repairs should be covered although I don't know how long for.

It is unfortunate but these things happen, I too had the DVD drive fail on a MacBook.

I will swallow my pride here and admit that, when I went to the local Apple repair store finally, there was NO DISK in the slot.

{ +how embarrassing+ }

I heard the CD Drive hum - no icon showing on desktop - I saw the CD unit in the Utilities window, but there really was no disk... I thought the unit didn't show up in UW unless there was a disk in there...

Thanks for your response, and for not thinking that I would do something so idiotic....
