software update package location?

noobie to remote desktop so be gentle. I 'd like to update my school's lab. Is there a way to run software update, so it downloads all the packages, then get at those packages so remote desktop can distribute it? I should have downloaded direct and avoided software update? but the HUGE updates is almost done now.....sure would like to get at those packages and avoided redownloaded them one by one....

MacBook 2.22 10.5.1, iBook 14 1.33, eMac 800 superdrive, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Run Software Update and choose Download Only from the Update menu. Packages should then be stored in /Users/username/Downloads for you to deploy using ARD.

I've downloaded all of the recent software update files but I'm having trouble installing them. Almost all of them contain .dist packages and they don't copy into the Install packages window. Any help would be appreciated.
