After a successful download of iTunes 8.2, I now have a relatively minor issue. Whenever I connect my Classic to sync, iTunes no longer shows the "Summary page." I'm sure there's a way to get to that "view," however, I don't seem to be able to find it. While my downloads have all been successful, I'm not able to make choices about manually syncing, etc while my iPod is connected. I have not noticed any other problems with the download, but it's still early days.

I have used this procedure to correct User Interface problems. It may help you and it can't hurt.
Quit iTunes.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost (in your home directory library). Remove any files titled com.apple.iTunes....plist. Restart iTunes and acknowledge the agreement.
Jim,
Thanks for the suggestion; however, after I removed all of the "iTunes.....plist" entries from my home library preferences folder and went through all of the iTunes acknowledgments, I still can't get the summary interface page when I sync. The iPod syncs without problem, though. Is their a "View" or other command from the iTunes preference menu that I could employ?
Yes I did, and when I re-checked it today after your suggestion, I deleted a few other ones from syncs I had done last night and this morning. Still not getting the summary screen.
The only other thing I can think of is to download iTunes again and install it over your current installation.

This won't affect any of your music or videos, but may fix any corrupted files in your iTunes application.
You might also reset your iPod.
To reset iPod classic:
1 Toggle the Hold switch on and off (slide it to HOLD and then back again).
2 Press and hold the Menu and Center buttons for at least 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Hi - I started out with a worse problem, that my iPhone (original model 8GB) would not sync after I downloaded iTunes 8.2 to my 2-year-old MacBookPro running 10.4.11. I got excellent help from suggestions in the thread at:
"IPhone not found by Mac or iTunes"
After running the fix there, my iPhone synched, but DID NOT SHOW THE Summary Page. I went to the regular iTunes Help menu, opened the Help file, and it said to "click on the iPhone icon" in the left side tool bar. I did, and the Summary Page opened and have not had any more problems since. Don't know if this simple fix works for everyone, but sure worked for me!
Oh, in addition, after running the fix, I also did a full reboot of both the MacBookPro and the iPhone, then when I restarted both and connected the iPhone, it appeared in the menu down the left side, but the SUMMARY PAGE DID NOT APPEAR. It synched normally, but no Summary Page. That's when I found the extra step (not previously required) to click on the iPhone icon, then the Summary Page appeared.
DD, thanks for the suggestion; it worked perfectly! All I did was to click on the iPod icon in the left, and presto, summary page opens. I've had no other problems with iTunes 8.2 and I've noticed that it now syncs my iPod much more quickly.
