ipod classic won't play on car stereo

I have an ipod classic and the car stereo is a VDO dayton CD1737X. It has a usb connection. When I plug the ipod in it intially appears to be connected but no sound (says connected on ipod)and then immediately disconnects. I have selected the aux on the stereo. Have no idea. Any suggestions or info greatly appreciated.

Is this how you're supposed to connect an iPod to this car stereo, via a usb connection?

All the car units I've seen have a dedicated iPod connection (i.e. the multi pin dock connector), or via a 3.5mm jack connection usually located on the front of the car unit.

What cable are you using to connect the iPod?

What does the user manual say about connecting an iPod to this unit?

Ok, I'm not familiar with the model of head unit you refer to. Maybe it's simply not possible to connect this way.

Is it at all possible to contact the manufacturer and get there advice.

As I said, I've never come across a car head unit that connects an iPod via a usb connection. My Kenwood unit has a usb connection and will not recognize an iPod connected in this manner (using the iPod cable). The Kenwood needs the specific iPod multi pin connector.

Also, simply connecting via usb will probably not supply a charge to the iPod from the head unit.
