This morning the automatic software update installed new itunes software and now my iphone doesn't appear under 'devices" anymore. I can't get itunes to find my iphone since the itunes upgrade. Any ideas?
I have the same problem, iPhone (2.2.1) doesn't appear in devices/desktop, doesn't synch. Does, however, appear in the System Profiler. iPhone behaves as if not plugged in, no charging icon, but still has plenty of juice. This behaviour has started suspiciously soon after installing the recent update of iTunes (8.2). Restarted both iPhone and computer. This is also the first problem I've had with the little fella.
I'm cross-posting this from another thread about this same issue.
I'm in the same boat. I installed the latest iTunes along with OS 10.5.7 and my 1st generation iPhone can no longer be seen by the OS for charging or syncing. The system will not see my wife's iPhone either. My iPhone can however be seen on my wife's Mac Mini (10.5.6).
I reinstalled iTunes -- no go. Then, I downloaded and reinstalled 10.5.7 with no luck. I then downloaded and installed from the Combo updater. Still no luck. I've tried switching charge cables/cradles, etc., also with no effect.
I next tried connecting my iPod Touch. The iPod Touch was initially seen, but only charged for a couple of minutes, after which it spontaneously rebooted, and came up unable to be seen from the system.
I've rebooted both my iPhone and Touch several times, with no effect.
At this point, I'm stumped. I filed a bug report with Apple, but I don't know if that will yield results. Google is reporting other users seeing similar issues.
Okay, restart computer for the fourth time fixed the problem. iPhone is now seen, synched and charged. Why the fourth restart worked? More bat's blood.
I had the same problem. No recognition, no charge on iPhone after update to iTunes 8.2. Didn't even show up with System Profiler. After several restarts, with no results, I reverted to the old school method of zapping the PRAM. 4 cycles of chimes holding the Command, Option, P & R keys did the trick. Back in business.
I have a first generation phone as well and am having issues with iTunes recognition as well. I have done all that has been recommended as well as restarting my computer - 2 times so far, although I have read that I might have to do this a few more times and cross my fingers.
It sounds to me that Apple has not had a fix yet. I hope that they do soon...
I spent some time on the phone with Apple Care and one of their iPhone specialists. IF your phone is not seen in the system profiler and you have tried other USB ports that are KNOWN to function and you have done all of the other suggested solutions (restart computer, reboot phone, reinstall itunes, ect..)...then the issue could be a _phone hardware issue_. My phone (1st generation) is not seen in iTunes, the system profiler on my iMac nor on another Mac laptop. SOOOoo, I have an appointment with the Genius Bar today.
I am also still unable to see my iPhone in iTunes after upgrading to iTunes 8.2. I have tried all the recommended troubleshooting (restart everything, remove and reinstall iTunes) and still no joy. I tried resetting PRAM and restarting twice more, and I'm still sad.
I downgraded from iTunes 8.2 to iTunes 8.0.2, and I still have this problem. I wonder if something else I installed with Software Update at the same time is the real source of the problem. I get this error message when I attach my iPhone to my computer: iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000001).
