I have had bt yahoo mail set up on my iphone for ages but today all of a sudden its not working, I've tried deleting it and putting it back in again but it just says authentication failed.
Anyone know how to correct this? or heard of it before? its really weird and annoying.
Just a guess...but in order to use Yahoo on the iPhone mail don't you have to pay the fee for Yahoo Plus or premium or something like that...You say you've had Yahoo attached to iPhone for a while...is it a yearly fee that you pay to Yahoo for that Plus service??? Maybe your subscription needs to be renewed???
Both my wife an I have had this same error just starting today as well (6th of June).
Been using the iphone for mail since the first generation, and never paid Yahoo for my address which I have had for over 11 years.
Same thing happened to me as well. I've been using it just fine for ages & I even managed to check my mail & send this morning & then all of a sudden it just stopped working this afternoon. I've tried deleting the account, setting it up again, doing a manual "other" type of account setup, everything fails in the same way. I keep getting the "authentication failed" error message and the "the username or password for "
______@yahoo.com" is incorrect" error message.
I even called up Apple & the tech support guy said they haven't received anything that would indicate that it's Yahoo's fault. I'm willing to bet it's an interface problem between Yahoo & Apple servers. It won't even allow me to delete the SMPT server.
If anyone gets anything further on this - please post!!
🙂
I've had a lot of friends tell me that today they lost their access too...assuming it's not a server issue with Yahoo...which could be the case...I'll add again that technically, you're not supposed to be able to use a "free" yahoo account with iPhone...you're supposed to pay for the POP account fee to Yahoo before that is "supposed" to work...many have figured out ways to "tricK" the Yahoo servers into thinking the account is a paid POP account...maybe Yahoo finally got smart and put a block in place for people who are not true POP account subscribers 🙂
Yahoo provides/supports accessing a free Yahoo account with the iPhone's mail client - as an IMAP account with Push capability. When creating a free Yahoo account with the iPhone's mail client using the Yahoo account preset, the account is created as an IMAP account with Push access.
I live in Italy. I have exactly the same problem: all of a sudden from yesterday evening Italian time I cannot access anymore on the Iphone my yahoo email.
What we can do to solve the problem?
My mistake then...I'm not sure where everyone who is having trouble is located...but I just set up a Yahoo account and added it to iPhone 3G and it works just fine...maybe it is a server issue outside US? I see folks have called Apple...but has anyone sent feedback to Yahoo?
I don't know where everyone else is located but I'm in the UK. I don't think it's location specific though because I've seen other posts on other sites from people all over the world including the US.
I tried to utilize providers others than yahoo and it appears the same problem: "the user name or password for ... is incorrect".
May be there is a problem with Iphone in general.
I'm accessing two email accounts with the iPhone's Mail client - a MobileMe account and a business POP account, and I'm experiencing no such problem with either account.

No. I can access my Yahoo and several other mail accounts with no problems. Most likely, the problem is incorrect mail account settings in
your phone.
It's not a problem with the settings on the iPhone or iPod Touch. It was working just fine one minute & then it stopped functioning. It has to be something with the interface. I emailed Yahoo & am waiting for a response. It may be helpful if others that are also experiencing this problem would email yahoo as well.
I'm not even using it on the iPhone - I'm on my iPod Touch & it's the same problem. It's not the ISP either because everything else is working fine - including all the aps on the Touch. I really wish someone at either Apple or Yahoo would get on this.
