This morning I turned on my iPhone and the screen was washed out, as if the gamma levels were through the roof and the graphics were bleached. For a while it kept flickering back to the original, saturated, colored screen and for about 5 minutes it returned back to normal. But after I turned it on again 30 minutes later, it went back to its buggy state.
I think this is a hardware issue because of the flickering, but if it isn't is there some way I can fix it without having to send it in to Apple?
It sounds to me like it's got moisture damage...if not full water damage...is there a reason why you don't want to send it to Apple? Is it out of warranty?
I'd prefer not to turn it in since it'll take some time and it'd be less hassle if I just do it myself, but now that you mention it, it's been raining for ten days straight in where I live, so I guess that could be the problem.
My iPhone did the same after I dropped it. I opened it up (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fF0DF-mbn4) and found that one of the screen connectors had come unplugged. Plugged it back in - back to normal. But of course doing all this would have voided my warranty.
