Changing domain name

I set my server up with
x.y.mydomain.com

Id like to change it to
x.mydomain.com

Is there an easy way to do this without messing it up?

Mac Mini, Mac OS X (10.5.1), 1 External HD, 150 GB, iPod Touch 8GB
