I'm having an issue with Vista SP2 and Bluetooth. I have Vista Home Premium SP2 running under Boot Camp on a MacBook Pro, and I have an Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse and Apple Wireless Keyboard I need to pair with Windows. I followed the instructions listed in the Boot Camp manual, but Vista won't let me create my own passkey, it just "pairs" the devices for me. When I close the window, the devices do not show up, nor do they function. I called AppleCare support, and have talked with all of who could help me, and they have determined this is an issue with Windows and that I need help from Microsoft. They said I have to enter my own passkey to get it to work, and they do not know why I can't. They're thinking it has something to do with a Windows Update.
Just wondering what can I do to get these paired up and working. I really need these to work since my MacBook Pro is on a notebook riser and it's awkward to raise up and type and click in such an uncomfortable position.
Thanks!
Nathan

same for me. When I press the connection button on the mouse, sometimes it will connect and install drivers, sometimes it won't. Either way, the mouse data does not actually come through.
Works a champ under os x though, so it's not the mouse.
I was having the same problem with my Mighty mouse too under Windows vista home premium sp2, but now I found the solution that might help you guys out..!!
1. Double click on bluetooth devices under control panel
2. If you don't see you mighty mouse on the window, click on the add wireless device.
3. Try to turn on and off your mouse until you see your mouse icon
4. When you see your mouse icon double click on it and you will see the mouse properties.
5. Click on the services tab
6. Tick the "Driver for keyboard, mice, etc (HID)" option
7. Click OK
I have a Microsoft Bluetooth 5000 mouse. My MacBook kept the mouse settings on the Apple side but not on my Windows 7. This is my work-around to get the mouse to connect.
1. Click on the Bluetooth icon in the system try.
2. Click add a device.
3. Activate the Microsoft 5000 pairing button.
4. When the mouse appears right-click on the mouse to bring up the Properties menu.
5. Select Services tab.
6. Place a check in the box labeled "Drivers for keyboard, mice
7. Click Apply, then Ok.
8. The bluetooth mouse will start to automatically connect to Windows 7.
This procedure keeps my Microsoft 5000 Bluetooth Mouse settings.
I have done a Restart, Shutdown, boot to Mac, back to Windows 7. As of now my bluetooth mouse is still working.
I had the same hardware set up like your, I agree that it was not easy to pair those apple bluetooth mouse and keyboard, After playing with for awhile i got them working. On the keyboard, choose no passkey, and on the mouse use "0000". Here's some trick on the mouse, after clicking add bluetooth device turn keyboard and mouse off and on. When you see both mouse and keyboard show up, click on keyboard and choose no passkey, it will connect fine without passkey. For the mouse, just push the mouse once, a popup message at the taskbar will say a bluetooth device try to connect and ask for passkey when you click on the popup message then just enter "0000", if they are both showing connected but still not working maybe a reboot will do. Hope this help. It works fine for me on vista x64 and x32.
I've been a PC user for 20 years and just bought my first Mac. I still need Windows so used Bootcamp to install Vista Home Premium.
Everything went fine until yesterday I chose to install SP2. No bluetooth or isight on reboot. Windows' ridiculous troubleshooting told me the devices weren't working - well duh!
Simple solution - uninstall SP2. I did and everything's back to normal. I can't believe Microsoft have the nerve to say Apple have to update their drivers. Drivers are fine, it's just SP2 that screws them up.
I'm a complete Mac convert now and adore OS X. Problem is I have a number of major projects where I need Windows (VBA Macros in Excel etc.) so I'm stuck with it for the time being. As soon as I can I'm ditching Windows for good.
If you enable the BT services on your peripheral keyboard/mouse like others have said then you should find that they work fine with the Macbook Pro. Personally i find the need to enter passkeys quite annoying since 99% of devices use 0000 as a formality. I now use BlueSoleil as a replacement BT stack (since among other things, it provides A2DP stereo audio support) and it handles connection with peripheral devices much better. You can try it for 15 days free if you want to see if it improves your BT experience. I posted how to set it up on a MBP on my blog here
Give Windows 7 a go - its much more than just an upgrade, it really is a whole new experience. In my personal opinion, it is SO good that i now prefer it over both my Ubuntu setup and OSX setup. I think OSX has a lot of work to do catching up usability wise, its just that good. Performance wise OSX still wins thanks to SL
I cannot get the apple wireless keyboard to work with my Mac Pro (Feb-2008 model) under bootcamp and Vista Home Premium 64. I had to upgrade from 10.5.1 in order to use Final Cut Studio 3, so I downloaded and installed OSX 10.5.8 update. Then I ran bootcamp and installed Vista 64. Afterwards, in Vista I inserted the original OSX 10.5.1 DVD and installed the drivers so Vista would recognize the apple hardware.
I went to pair the wireless mighty mouse and apple keyboard and the instructions say to enter 0000 for the mouse, and enter an 8 digit or larger number for the keyboard. Since the keyboard doesn't work, I couldn't enter anything so I let the system choose a number for the keyboard and let the mouse go without a number. Both show they are connected but only the mouse works. I also tried letting the system generate a number for both but only the mouse works. I tried turning off the mouse but then the system doesn't detect the keyboard at all. For that matter, I don't even like the mighty mouse anyway and prefer to use the mouse with my Wacom tablet so I could do without the mighty mouse if that would somehow help.
Is there a known issue with 10.5.8 and bluetooth under windows vista 64? What should I do? I must have Vista 64 in order to utilize 3ds Max 2010 and I must have a keyboard to use 3ds Max. Is there a driver I can download to make it work or do I need to buy a generic USB keyboard?
Thanks in advace for any help with this. I am looking forward to finally getting this Mac all set up.
