Itunes store unknown error-42404

I have this exact problem. Can anybody help?

The problem showed up when I had to reinstall Mac OS X 10.4.11, after an installation crash for Safari 4.0. Before that, there was never any problem.

Have the same problem. Weird thing, though, here I can listen to SOME purchased tracks, but not all.

I also just re-installed (archive&inst) 10.4.11 and have had problems since. Spinning ball-cursor with no apps open etc. - but this iTunes store-problem is REALLY annoying.

A solution would be nice.

i had to get a replacement ipod video. it would not connect to my macbook. the genius(after an hour going over things) suggested that i archive and install OS X 10.4 and then do software updates. so after all this(and there were some problems), the ipod video would connect to my macbook. but i get this 42404 error at times. i can copy some of my songs to my ipod. i can purchase the free single form the itunes store. i can log in and the purchase goes through and it is downloading, but then i get the 42404 message and the song is not on my computer. i can download free podcasts. what is up here?

oh, yeah. just noticed that all my stuff syncs to the ipod video, but when you try to play it or look at a picture it gets stuck and the only way to get any responsiveness is to reset. what is going on?

I have had the same problem: I archive-installed leopard after major problems and now I am unable to authorise my computer to play the 30 second previews of songs on the iTunes store. I am able to play songs I had previously bought but when I try to play songs from the store, I get:

'We could not complete your iTunes store request. A required iTunes component is not installed. (-42404)'

'There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later.'

Does anybody know how to fix this? Of course the error message doesn't say what component is missing...

I too can't play all of my purchased songs, but I can play some... What's going on???

This is almost certain to fix all problems listed above:

Delete the iTunes application from 'Applications' (do NOT 'uninstall' or delete other files, just the iTunes app)
Download iTunes
Install using the installer program in the download

Music and playlists will remain untouched, since you only delete the program

You will need to authorise your computer ONCE for EACH USER (you will be prompted) but this time it WILL WORK!
