A Pro Optical Mouse

Hello All:

Long time no see! I've got a problem that may be solvable or not. I'm don't know. My teenager has the G4 with a Pro keyboard and optical mouse. For whatever reasons, the mouse died. He then stole my optical mouse and plugged it into his own keyboard. Again, the mouse died. Did he kill the mice or are they fixable? I seem to recall others having an issue with the opt mouse and something in the keyboard. How will I know if the mice are just dead or fixable?
Thanks so much.

I think it is in the "rodent" and not your computer. 😉 Apple Pro mice and for the matter Microsoft Inteli mouse have a design issue where cord enters the mouse body. Anyway over time internal wires become frayed and without a good tail they die.

Seldom is they worth fixing so I would get a $20(US$) Logitech 3 button scroll wheel and have fun. Most come without drivers and functions just like a one button mouse but Logitech's drivers opens up new features you can custom configure accordingly. Almost 4 years now having a Logitech and see them as a rather inexpensive replacement and one heck of an improvement.

Hello Ron:

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm curious about two things however: 1) why did the mice die upon use on my son's keyboard? They were working on my own - the original grape iMac 400. and 2) what would the Logitech's extra buttons do with respect to my use on the Mac? Do all of the 3 buttons function as the one? You stated that they will open up a new realm of options. Does that mean you can actually program the other buttons to do various tasks? And 3) I take it that I would have to download the driver for the mouse?

Thanks again.

David Jenson...

Oh no, not Wally World! LOL

They do have a few that comes with CDs but I can get 2 (maybe even 3) for 1 elsewhere, money wise. The PC side of Electronics seem poorly inventoried at our local Super Center. I find that place a jungle unless I go there after midnight. But I have more food items that I need, otherwise I would forget the place.
