switching iphones?

Ok last year 2008, i bought the iphone 3G in july with the 2 year contract. Now almost a year later a somewhat new iphone 3g s. Now if you super good at math youd no i have around 1 year left until the contract is over. My question is that can i switch my iphone 3g and buy the new iphone without any problems with the contract? I say this because both iphones have the same thing with AT&T only the new iphone is faster and has a few different things. Can i buy the new iphone, put my iphone 3g sim card thing in the new iphone and it would work with no problems?

Check your account on AT&T, if this is a corporate account you might be eligible to upgrade on 7/12/2009, otherwise you are probably eligible for a subsidized upgrade on 12/12/2009 (assuming you bought the iPhone on 7/11/2008). You can buy it for an unsubsidized price of $399/$499 if you add 2 years on your contract. Supposedly they will have a $599/$699 version with not extension of the contract.

Only the 8GB model is the same phone, the 3GS has a new processor, etc.

And since you have an existing contract with AT&T you can't buy a subsidized iPhone which is why the new one will cost you $399/$499. Or, you could cancel your current account, pay the $175 ETF, start a new account, pay the $36 to set up a new account and $199 for the iPhone, for a total of $400.
