Map not moving & Google Search not working

I am so frustrated. I am trying to add a custom location in iPhoto.

To do this I am using the Google Search in Manage My Places section. The google search just does not work. I type in London and the map greys out and the round timer comes up and then nothing.... It runs like this forever!

In addition, I have tried to grab the map to centre a part of it I am interested in. Grabbing the map just picks up the square of the map I have selected and tries to copy it. If I hold on and take it over the desktop and then release, it copies a square of the map into a file and deposits it on the desktop. I have tried this in all of the parts of the app that let me see a map. They all behave the same.

I have read from the forum that other people have had this kind of problem when their internet connection isn't working but mine is.

I have switched off the firewall. No change

Google works fine on Safari and it can find London....

Help!!!

Try this

1 - be sure that your advanced preference to look up places automatically is set

2 - select a photo and click on the "i" in the lower right corner - click on place and type an address in london near where you want to place the photo - click on find on map under the address you typed in and you will have a map you can move and a pin you can move - set it where you want it and click assign to photo

Thanks for this.

I have checked the setting and it is configured to automatically look up places.

I tried your suggestion. But as before, when I type in any address even major cities like London, Manchester, Birmingham etc. The map dims and the timer comes up. and then ... Nothing. No pin, no map lookup it just continues looking and doesn't change.

As far as centering the map. This still does not work. Under any map screen, if I grab the map, I can't move it but it just grabs an image tile.

I completely agree. I had exactly the same experience last night after upgrading. I have taken a lot of photos around my area of Hertfordshire and gave up in frustration trying to geotag the images using the Google map in Iphoto. I could not place the pin where I wanted, having precisely the problems you describe. Worse than that, I typed in England on one occasion and now every new image I try and place with a tag, the map starts in London and automatically tags the image in central England. I have deleted everything barring one place in the places manager that I created in the original version of Iphoto 09 which is still correct but it makes no difference. Google also works fine for me in Safari so the problem definitely appears to be the way Iphoto handles Google maps.

+Same for the 8.0.3 German iPhoto / Safari 4.0 version.+

"Google places" e.g. "Meine Orte verwalten" worked in iPhoto
(a strongly emphasized and marketed feature in iPhoto)
before the update, not working anymore since.

Funny: *The Safari 4.0 beta did not show this odd behavior...*

That bug was around some time before in iPhoto
(thought last time you got a alert screen wrongly claiming the computer is not connected to the internet while it was).

I wrote to Apple with a bug report - I'm only wondering why it takes them so long to fix a simple bug - they already encountered before.
