Auto-naming of duplicate file (Available in Snow Leopard??)
I run into this type of problem a few times a day. Does anyone know if my idea is addressed somehow in Snow Leopard? Here is the problem/my idea to fix it.
When re-naming a file, which has the same name of an existing file in same location, instead of an error about duplicate name with only one box that says 'OK', which resets my desired file name. Have another box beside it, when, if clicked, it will auto name the file with what was typed, followed by a number, in sequential order of how many files with that name exist. Example of idea: If I have two pictures on my desktop named, 'Family Dog' & 'Family Dog 1'. And I add another photo that has pre-set digital camera title, 'DSC_1071' and I rename it to, 'Family Dog', the pop up box will say, 'The name "Family Dog" is already taken. Would you like to re-name it to "Family Dog 2"?' Then you can choose yes or no, instead of having to rename the file all over again, with the appropriate number to avoid the error second time around.
I know automator works great with renaming large batches of files, but I'm talking about the times when you only need to name one file every now & then as new ones that are apart of a collection. I always forget what file names are taken within each folder, so it happens to me a lot. 🙂 Am I the only one?
