Garmin Communicator plugin

The ball is in Garmin's court about upgrading the plugin. I suggest contacting them.

And I and my Garmin unit are waiting too! Unfortunately, Garmin continues to be very PC focused. Perhaps with more user feedback, they may start to realize a sizable number of users actually use Macs.

I think Garmin is tone-deaf when it comes to Safari. 😟

The bad news is, it still doesn't work in Safari 4.

As before, Help > Installed Plug-ins shows it as installed, but the test page says it is "NOT detected."
As before, it still works in Firefox.

Another interesting tidbit: something strange happens to Safari's JavaScript support whenever I go to the Garmin test page. I haven't thoroughly investigated it yet, but certain JavaScript methods stop working--in all windows--until Safari is restarted.

Got to hand it to Garmin. In this day and age of tremendous change, they are the one consistent factor we can all count on. 😉

Thanks for that. I'll give it a try.

BTW the webplugin is for handling the conversion on the widget dashboard. Same is true for the Quicktime plugin. Removing either takes away that function too. Hopefully this gets sorted out soon.

Had the same problem (July 12 '09).

Waited for "next available agent" for 5 hours. Their customer service seems nonexistant.

Wish I would have purchased another brand.

Any solutions?

Just installed Communicator Plugin for Mac 2.7.3 and still get the message indicating that the plug in isn't installed! It works fine on Firefox though.

The link to that forum discussion was indeed the problem, a conflict between Flip4Mac WMV and Garmin Communicator Plugin in Safari 4.x. I just tested and confirmed it, here's my app specs:

OS X 10.5.8
Safari 4.0.3 (5531.9)
Garmin Communicator 2.8.1
Flip4Mac WMV 2.2.3.7
Also:
Safari Cookies 0.8
Saft 11.0.2

As of this post all are the latest versions.

So, it looks like we're going to have to wait for MS and Garmin to sort this out, for us lowly Mac users, and that is a grim prospect. Looks like I'll not be uninstalling FF anytime soon.

I could not download Garmin Communator Plugin with Safari 4.02 or Firefox 3.0.11 but Camino 1.6.9 worked great. I then bought more maps then would fit on my Garmin. They could have told me they would not fit. Fortunately I had a spare camera memory card.
