yep, I know

I have Cyberduck, but I want to connect with the finder to just read files already on the server,

I'd actually want to use NFS, but I don't think the server has that on
and my boss (who owns the server in question) doesn't know how to enable that (on this Linux server)
strange though, if I try to connect over NFS, I don't get a error, but it doesn't seem to do anything either

Hmmm, not on Tiger at the moment, but just tried Leo's Finder to my own online ftp... error -50 !

Tried this one and it worked!

ftp://debian.cites.uiuc.edu/pub/debian-cd/

Only difference I could see was on mine Little Snitch asked to use port 21, I said OK, it errored, the Debian one Little Snitch asked to use port 49993 or such and it connected!

This one didn't work either with error -50...

ftp://ftp.net.usf.edu/pub/fedora/linux/core/5/i386//iso/

So something in Finder has some port tied up that ftp is wanting to use it seems.

See this for clues...
