Flash Video Performance - bad in FF/Safari while good in Opera/Seamonkey?

Ever since flash video performance has been a problem on all apple platforms i used (powerbook 1gh, mac pro quad 2,66ghz, macbook air etc)... in comparison to PC systems the performance always lagged FAR behind.

In my struggle to get flash videos to run smoothly on macbook air i ran across some odd thing:
Safari 3+4, Webkit and Firefox (all versions) take more than DOUBLE the cpu load than playing video in Opera or Seamonkey.

I've been discussing this with a lot of people recently - anyone who tested it got the same results.

How can this be? Why is there this huge gap in these applications while functionality for flash keeps the same?

And why can't safari and firefox simply use the same methods to accelerate playback? (when even firefox and seamonkey both come from mozilla)

Mac Pro 4x2,66GHz, Mac OS X (10.5.7), 9GB RAM, 1,75 TB HD, ATI X1900
