Mouse establishes connection but fails to pair

My mouse was working perfectly, it stopped working yesterday, I was using the mouse then I moved to the basement and left the mouse behind, next time I try to connect it did not work.

Now I try to install again it does detect the mouse, it establishes connection but then I get the message " The pairing attempt was unsuccessful. Make sure your mouse is in range of this computer, turned on and "discoverable" When ready click Continue to try again"

I was successful pairing the mouse with other Mac, also tried a different mouse in this computer and with the same results, so something is wrong with this computer that does not pair devices. I try deleting the com.apple.bluetooth.plist file.

Any help will be appreciated

Hi there,

I'm having exactly the same problem. My mouse has been working perfectly for the last 5 years. But just recently, when I switch the mac on, it doesn't find the mouse. What is that about? The only thing I did differently was install OS X 10.5 !!!

In fact, that was the first time I had the problem - Booting up from the Disk and lo! No mouse or keyboard available. Then once it was running with hardwired peripherals, then I could set up the mouse and keyboard manually, and surprise they were found, but only when I remove and refitted the batteries (in the mouse).

The questions I have for these illusive Apple bods are, 'Are they going to fix it (before 10.7 and that's no good for my G5, anyway)?', 'Why isn't it fixed now that I've gone back to 10.4?', 'Does this mean Leopard updated the firmware in my mouse?' and if so, 'How can I go back to earlier firmware?'

Sorry there are lots of questions here and no answers, but it may help understand what is causing the problem and why...

So, then I downloaded MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.dmg, installed it and the mouse seems to be working fine again. Hope that helps.

10.6 didn't work for me!

Bluetooth pairing with Apple Mighty Mouse and Keyboard was very erratic in 10.5.x. Especially after waking Macbook Pro from sleep. Upgraded to SL 10.6.1 and everything was working fine. *Then just recently my mice and keyboards (home and office) will not pair.*

Sometimes Bluetooth status in the menubar shows the devices as connected, but with no response. If not connected, selecting "Connect" registers positive, but again, without an actual pairing with the device.

In Mouse Prefs, selecting "Setup Bluetooth Mouse..." returns "No mouse found" and continuous "Searching...", even though I'm using the bluetooth mouse!

Turning Bluetooth off then on re-pairs the devices. But problems repeat after next wake from sleep...

What you need to do if the problem is on the Windows boot camp side to get the drivers to work is to go to the bluetooth symbol at the bottom click it then pick show bluetooth devices. Next pick add bluetooth device then when the device appears double click the device and a window should come up saying at the top general and other. Pick other and inside this window check the small box. Then Windows will find the exact driver for that device and it will be paired and work fine.
