iMac24 goes 2 sleep and wont wake while HD back up!

This is a post from a friend of mine who is having problems while copying between 2 external USB drives, she says her computer basically went to sleep several times and on the 4th she could not wake it up.

I just upgraded from a 500GB to a 1TB external,

Here is how it is set up:
-I formatted the drives with Guide Partitions, and journalled etc,
-My computer screen saver is set to 15 minutes,
-And my screen will sleep after 35,
-Hard drives are not set to sleep,
-Need password to wake from sleep or screensaver

Upon returning 3 times while away i had no problems waking the computer up by just tapping the space-bar,

But the 4th time the screen stayed black, i heard my alert sound each time i would tap th space bar, and since this (which was last night) 14 hours ago, i still can not wake up the computer.

I can see that the drives are still showing copy activity.

So rather then forcing my computer to restart and having to copy hundreds of GB all over again i figured maybe i can ask around if there is a solution or trick to waking up a iMac 24 late 2006 from deeep sleep.

Any advise appreciated 🙂

She uses a iMac 24/2.33GHz late 2006, 2GB ram, 10.5.7, 1TB internal drive, just upgraded from a 500GB to a 1TB external drive as well, USB.
