Damage around keyboard area - known problem?

I've got a circa 2 year old MacBook (white 2.16 ghz).

It's served me well and continues to!

It's got this damage though to the right of the track pad and I'd like to get it sorted. I can't seem to post pictures here so I'll just describe - it's basically the rubberised keyboard surround has disintegrated in a very localised area along the edge of the polycarbonate casing leaving like a very narrow gap (the gap is about 3mm wide by 40mm long). It's to the right of the track pad, basically where the screen comes down and there's a raised notch on the screen. Strange it hasn't happened on the left side.

I believe this is a known fault on some models - are Apple able/likely to help me even though I'm well out of warranty?

Anyone advise?

cheers,

bb
