Wi-Fi Auto Login & Saved Usernames/Passwords Problem in iPhone OS 3.0 (GM)

I work at a University and we have campus-wide WiFi. It requires you to log-in via a web-browser page (you are automatically redirected when you open your browser), like a commercial hot spot. The new Automatic WiFi Login feature of 3.0 (GM) doesn't work for me. The process is definitely different, but doesn't seem to be totally working. Instead of being redirected to a log-in page when I open Safari, now a window slides up from the bottom of the screen with the log-in page. I type in my username and password, hit go, and it works like normal, only since the log-in page is now on a slide-up page, it just slides down and goes away, and I go about my business.

The way my campus' network works, if you are inactive for a long enough time (somewhere between 15-30 minutes, I'm not sure exactly) you're logged out so when you start browsing again you have to log-in again. It's a giant pain for iPhone users seeing as most browsing sessions on the iPhone are pretty short. As a result, I'm typing my username and password into that log-in page multiple times a day (between 3-10 depending on how much I use the phone). I don't know what's up with it, but in the new version of Safari under 3.0 (GM), when I'm logging in to web sites, it doesn't ask to save the password every time. For example, it won't ask to save the password when I go to Twitter's mobile site, but it will when I go to Facebook's. I'm not sure why it is only remembering information for certain sites. My campus log-in page is one of these sites. When I log-in via the new slide-up window, it doesn't offer to remember the info, so I'm assuming it can't pull it back up to do the automatic log-in, which is why I think it isn't working.

Specifically, when I connect to the network now, the phone appears to try to auto-connect (screen dims and shows "connecting") but eventually gives up and slides the manual log-in screen up.

Anybody else have experience with this?

Do you have to do anything at all with Boingo to fix this (e.g. setup an account?)? or do you really just install and leave be?

I had a mare yesterday when I was in a hotel and couldnt connect to the wifi as the **** login screen kept popping up but wouldnt let me click on the 'connect' button to allow me to connect.

Another question.... how does the new auto login thing work if you actually need to pay to join the hotspot??

Thanks

I have the same issue as everyone above.

my workplace has cisco wireless router.
every time i want to use it it redirects me to the login web page.
the iphone then takes over and slides up the panel.

ironically autocomplete doesnt work on the slide up panel so i have to input the user/pass combination multiple times a day, and refresh the safari window.

annoying!

Mr Baldman,
If you don't mind spending a few dollars, I'd recommend 1Password (the basic version should be okay for this). You'll also need to install the Boingo WiFi app. 1Password will do the auto-fill after you enter a 4-digit PIN of your choice and a couple of more taps to select the site.

You may need to edit the username/password prompts in 1Password to match your authentication page. If you look at the HTML source for your authentication page from a wireless desktop or laptop, you should see what the appropriate fields are called. For example, on our network, I needed to change the default labels to "user" and "password" to get it to work. If the page is using "username" and "password" you should be good to go without changing anything in 1Password.

I Have the same problem on my schools wifi network logging in. I can't believe apple would have such a major bug in an update that costs $10 for me( i have an itouch) as soon as I saw this problem i was furious. I CANT BELIEVE APPLE WOULD MAKE ME PAY $10 TO BREAK MY WIFI ABILITY!!! I really hope they fix this issue because I am considering even going back to 2.1.

is this problem still existent in the current 3.1 version?
I am still on 3.0.1 and this problem is really annoying at the university here.
Just wondering if upgrading would fix it!?
If not, is apple at least smart enough to read this to at least quickly fix that disconnect on "cancel" problem, so one would be able to get to the vpn settings to enable them!

Permit me to give a new version of this sad story. For both paid and unpaid wifi where one has to log in (even if just to click "accept conditions") this is really annoying. I was in the Sheraton in Brussels last month and must have had to log in every few minutes for free wifi.

1. My ipass login app (like the Boingo one)worked fine in 3.0 but crashed in 3.01 and could not see or authenticate ipass enabled networks. It works now in 3.1, because ipass fixed it.
2. 1password also worked fine (at UC Berkeley we have Air Bears, which keeps requiring a new login from safari) but does'nt work in 3.01 or 3.1.
3. What is blue socket? How do I know it works everywhere?
4. Is there a program that also remembers "yes I accept conditions"

Replies here or to mrmeter@stanford.edu happily accepted.

An even sadder story. Having ATT DSL at home, I have access to ATT wireless hotspots for free and ATT roaming spots for $10/month. Not as many places as Ipass (for example, Most German airports work with Ipass but NOT att).
So you wouled think that att would have an iphone app for att wireless hot spots.

They don't. they have an app i DOS for my laptop, but not for the Iphone they "own".
Is that a case of 1 hand not knowing what the other is doing?

And one more I forgot. Easy Wi Wifi is supposed to remember passwords, but it looks it it only helps for pre-selected systems that are somehow listed in a directory. When I lock my iphone on a network, then ask it to find the network, it replies "must be connected to the internet". If I am connected, it still won't connect.

Is this because I have the new op sys or ?

Same issue as SJK969.

If I want to use VPN, I end up having to login twice. Once through the bluesocket web portal and a second time with the Cisco VPN. Its fairly annoying as I always use VPN.

And no I DO NOT want to use auto-fill.
