Does anyone has experience with Dynafix repair?

Hello,

my iPhone broke down, and in Belgium all warranty claims have to go via Mobistar/ Dynafix.
I looked this company up on the internet, and all I got were horror stories about warranty refusal (due to water damage, other impossible to proof defects), iPhones that come back more broken than before, claims to pay 40 euros just to get an unfixed iPhone back,...

To be honest I'm afraid to even send my broken iPhone to them. Apparently Apple doesn't support iPhones in Belgium because I tried an official Service Provider, but they couldn't help me. Have to go to Mobistar -> Dynafix.

So does anyone have positive experiences with repairs in Belgium?
(I do want this iPhone fixed otherwise I'll lose all my progress in imob online 😉
The new iPhone 3Gs looks great, and if the old one gets repaired, I won't hesitate to buy the new one too.

Thanks in advance for any reactions. I'll keep you informed on the progress.

MrTerryG,

I wish I could tell you of a happy and joyful experience. However, I'm afraid my story won't put your mind at ease.

Since I bought my iPhone last summer, my vibration-function was very loud. I wasn't aware that this was abnormal until I heard a colleague's iPhone vibrating much softer, more than half a year later.

I first tried to bring in my iPhone in a local Apple Store, but they told me I had to bring it in at Mobistar, since I bought it there.
When I took it back, I saw a very thin hairline fracture at the simcard tray. This happened when I had -carefully- removed the simcard to bring in the iPhone.

I brought in my phone at Mobistar, describing the hairline fracture and vibration problem. They sent it to Dynafix.
2 weeks later, I went to the Mobistar Center, and they told me I had 3 choices:
1. Pay 282€ and get a new iPhone in return
2. Pay 40€ to get it back unrepaired
3. Tell them to throw away the phone

They said that the damage wasn't covered by the warranty. After that, they showed me a picture, taken by Dynafix. I couldn't believe my eyes, the hairline fracture wasn't just a hairline fracture anymore, and suddenly there were much more fractures! I don't know what they did with my phone, but it looks awful now.

I sent emails to Dynafix, but their replies were not covering the point (as if they only read half of the mail).

I called and mailed Apple and Mobistar too, and both ends advised me to send letters, because there were much more similar complaints.

So that's what I'm going to do tomorrow.

It's really really sad, because this rules out buying new iPhones from Mobistar, because as long as they have a contract with Dynafix, you have an almost certain chance of being scr*wed by the repair company.

I hope you haven't sent in your iPhone, because my advice is: take detailed pics of your phone first, and have them signed by the salesman in your local store where you are bringing it in.

Kind regards,

codus

Thank you Codus for your thorough response!

I haven't sent the iPhone to Dynafix yet because I'm still waiting to get it back from the Apple Store. That far our stories correspond; Apple doesn't take ownership and points to Mobistar.

As you advised I will document my iPhone with video and pics before turning it in.

When I read your, and other stories on the internet about warranty issues and Dynafix; I'm getting quite discouraged. But I will continue with this because we as consumers have rights.

I really don't understand how a company like Apple is letting their image and good name be jeopardized by an unprofessional partnership!

I'm hoping that all off us can group together too build a strong case and get some thing moving.

To be continued...

After a week and 2 days, only Apple has responded to my letters.
They said it's up to Mobistar to take care of this, but Apple will give me a giftcard for the online shop.
Very nice of them, but I doubt it'll be 282 euro's.

Now I'm waiting for Mobistar to answer the letter. The store literally wrote 'Hairline fracture' on the damage description, and I've got a copy of it, so even if Dynafix says it's not a hairline fracture (because they manhandled my iPhone...), Mobistar should give me a repaired iPhone.
The belgian consumer organisation (Test Aankoop) advised me to sue them if they won't do it for free. I hope it doesn't come to that, but I've had just enough of the crap they keep pulling.

I'm doing research before sending in my 3G too. As of last week my home button isn't responding like it should be and I also only heard about horror stories.

I will do as recommended and take A LOT of detailed pictures and print those out tommorow and then take these along 2 times = once for me signed by me and the store manager and once to send along with the Iphone.

There are absolutely no cracks, the only visual thing they can point out is a little scratch on my screen, but that common user damage and not by dropping or wathever... Happy I keep it in a case and my pocket all the time!

We'll see what happens, but I have no intention whatsoever to pay for a service/fault that occurs within the 12 months of guarantee period. ( Unless they upgrade to 3Gs, but I won't believe they'll do that )

One night my connection to the operator suddenly disappeared. I tried rebooting, but the iPhone went in some locked status in which I could only make emergency calls. Told me to restore via iTunes.

I tried restoring for several days (old backups, newer backups, DFU mode, whatever...). Always synced for around an hour, and then gave me an error 1002.

So I was stuck in 'Restore Modus'.

Brought the iPhone to the Apple Store first; they couldn't fix it. Told me to go to Mobistar.
That's when i started this topic.

After 7 business days Mobistar contacted me to say my iPhone was repaired. In fact I got a new (refurbished?) one.

Happy ending for me. I hope it works out for you too!

Hmm, maybe with interior flaws they're more willing to repair or replace. Exterior damage is probably easier to make money out of.

Anyway, I still haven't got any news from mobistar. It's been 2 months since I brought my iPhone to the shop, and almost a month since I sent the letters.
Mobistar keeps saying 'you can be sure they will contact you', but they can't tell me when...

Many many phonecalls later, the only answer I got (that matters) from mobistar is that the commercial service is dealing with this between them and Dynafix...

I called with customer care, customer support, mobistar service center, and some number where you can make complaints. Calling all those numbers made one thing very clear to me: Mobistar is **** internally. All those people are complaining about the other people I called with, and one mobistar-guy even said "The way Mobistar is selling iPhone is very shifty"...

I brought in my iPhone mid-may, thinking that, if they give me a new device, I still have time until the end of July (when my guarantee expired) to test if there are no production flaws in that device, but seeing that the guarantee already expired this week...

I'll try to send a letter to the CEO of Mobistar, and hope to get somewhere...
