Desktop and screensaver icon is missing in system preferences?
I cannot change the desktop preferences because the icon does not appear in system preferences. I have the ScreenEffectsPref.prefPane in the library, but this does not open when I double click it. If a right click the desktop and press change desktop background, nothing happens.
Welcome to Apple Discussions:
I don't have a ScreenEffectsPref.prefpane on my computer
Do you have any 3rd party software installed for this?
Or am I missing something?
Desktop preferences on my machine are changed via the Desktop & Screen Saver pref pane.
thanks.. I dont have a 3rd party software installed.
Yes I have read in other discussiones about the Desktop & Screen Saver pref pane, but I think I dont have it.
Have you tried repairing disk permissions for the screensaver issue?
Launch Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
I ran the repair disk permission. It changed the desktop background to the orginal mac background, but I am still unable to change it. The icon is still missing. I am going to try with the update combo. Thanks!
The download is taking a long time. when it gets close to the end, I can use another laptop. Are you going to be there? haha because it says its going to take at least another hour and a half.
