There are a host of possibilities Blair, much depends on where the MXF comes from ... you might want to look into MXF4Mac's MXF4QT options, or Calibrated Software's MXF Import. Or it could be that FCP's Log and Capture already offers all you need, or you might just need a free Log and Transfer plugin ... or maybe Sony's XDCAM Transfer app is the answer. As said, a lot depends on the source.

Thanks very much for your reply.

I just have a straight up .mxf file. I'm not really sure where it comes from to be honest. Some production company in the UK from the company I work with sent it to me.... is there a free converting program i can download.?

Is this a matter of just converting a file for example .mov to a flash or is it more complicated than that?

Confused.

Does it say 004GHZ.mxf or something similar? Or HG4783IKSJHD9882094048DLJSH.mxf...REALLY long string of letters and numbers?

The short one is a P2 file, the long one is an Avid file. Depending on where it comes from is how you deal with it. But really, you might have to look into Raylight, or Calibrated or MXF4QT...third party MXF solutions that allow FCP to open MXF files.
