Mic Distortion and Delay

I keep getting distortion on my mic, even when the levels are turned right down.

Also getting delay, like a semi-quaver of delay, when recording live through the headphones.

It keeps on happening, so it isn't the mic breaking, something keeps changing and it's really annoying.

Any help?

You need to tell us what interface you are using, & what you can see in +Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup.+

Then we will have a much better idea how to help.

Also — check your drivers are up-to-date (visit the manufacturer's website to check for known issues & updated driver downloads).

+(GarageBand: not ironic; they work very differently!)+

The buffer is already on 32.

I monitor it through Logic, yes.

Ironically none of this happens in GarageBand

That's because GB is new Logic technology which Logic hasn't yet received! 🙂

The distortion is probably because of your low buffer setting, try 64 or 128. You can also turn of software monitoring in Logic and monitor through the Saffire. (Direct Monitoring), buffer setting can then go up to 256 for solid performance.

If it's only reverb you need there is another method that combines direct and software monitoring, it offers the best of both worlds but takes a few steps for the initial setup. I'll post it if needed.
