13" MBP SATA interface downgraded to 1.5 Gigabit

I just checked my system information and the sata connection is reporting 1.5 Gigabit as the speed. I discovered this when I benchmarked my Vertex 60GB SSD and noticed that the speeds were a lot slower than before (I used to have a 15" umbp). Did apple downgrade the sata connection? This is a huge disappointment and very surprising.

+*MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.7 addresses an issue reported by a small number of customers*+

Ah... in true Apple form. Come on now... would they really have released a firmware update (which is actually a big deal) only two weeks after a product launch because of an issue reported by "a small number of customers"? I'd imagine it was either missed in the initial firmware or they were able to resolve whatever issue there was that caused its exclusion in the first place.

Okay, great news indeed, but notice how in the support article they state that "All previous and current Apple portables with a SATA drive interface include a SATA 1.5Gbps hard drive."

Is that really true? Could that be true for the Apple provided SSD drives? It seems to make no sense! I guess the main question for me is, if I get a factory installed SSD from Apple, is it by definition going to be a 1.5Gbps drive?

Again, pre-installed SSD owners: could you please let us know the exact model numbers of the drives you got? Also, some benchmarks would be great...

It was more likely enough an intentional choice that they didn't feel would be missed given the state of current hard drive technology. A lot of things are intentionally limited in firmware, and it's extremely dodgy to try to perform one's own firmware mod.

As for "small number", the likelihood is that not that many people (in the grand scheme of things) were complaining about it. The people who were tended to be rather vocal about it.

Idoogy:

EXACTLY! I have ordered a NEW 15" 2.8 as well as a NEW 17" 2.8 (which supposedly "still" has 3.0 interface). BOTH with Apple installed SSD's.

As soon as I see what the interface is on the new machines...VERY IMPORTANT HERE...that have Apple installed SSD's, I will post results.

Any day now.
