Activating the 1st gen iphone after selling iPhone 3G

My question is simple, I had an iPhone 3G and sold it on ebay. Now I would like to use my 1st generation iPhone. When I plug it into iTunes it tells me to activate it, I just need to know if this would somehow mess up my plan at all, I dont mind paying for the 3G service still, as I am getting an iPhone 3GS when it comes available. I just have no phone to use right now except my 1st generation iPhone. Could I activate it and use it as normal? Thanks!
