Very Poor Volume Output - Windows XP

Same here. Had the problem in Win 7 AND the volume keys weren't working there, so I wiped the partition and installed Vista. Still only gets to about half-volume.

This is going to require a driver update for Boot Camp, I'm sure. There aren't any generic Cirrus Logic drivers available for the audio.

Has anyone tried contacting Apple about this yet?

Just got off the phone from Applecare. The assistant was not aware of any issue, but suggested that I wait for a driver update. He said that Boot Camp drivers would update through Software Update in OSX.

Not very satisfactory, but then I guess this is the price we pay for being early adopters!

He also suggested that Apple do monitor the forums to see what issues are occurring so I suggest we do our bit to keep this thread near the top. I suspect it will grow as more of the newest MBPs start to be sold and people try to install XP/Vista.

I got exactly the same problem to my system. I did not have this problem before updating Boot Camp from version 2.0 to 2.1. Now there is no volume outputing. I updated the boot camp because I was hoping to solve the "Blue Screen of Death" problem to my MacBook Pro. However it was failing in solving it and lead to second problem, the volume issue.

Do you have any sound at all or is the sound just very quiet? I ask because the problem on this thread seems to be limited to the brand new line of Macbook Pros and from your post it sounds as if you have an older model.

In perhaps a similar vein, I wanted to add my dislike of the Cirrus Logic drivers on my new macbook pro 15 inch.

I have the same pithy sound without headphones but more drastically the 3D acceleration is anything but. It makes 3D games stutter with poor performance (great frame rates till direct sounds play). Makes my investment in the better graphics card (9600 GT) a bit of a kick in the teeth.

Turning off acceleration in the sound device properties makes my games fly, but obviously sound terrible (popping and hissing). Tested with Oblivion, Bioshock and Mass Effect. I find myself somewhat ironically awaiting Windows 7 for a chance at a better sound driver.

I have the SAME issue with Vista! I had a 13" MB 13 Alum body, upgraded to the NEW 13" MBP last week, and installed my OLD HD and everything worked fine except the sound, once I loaded the New boot camp drivers I too got sound in windows BUT VERY LOW and unacceptable! I am returning my MBP 13" today and they are waiving the restocking fee and I will wait to see if APPLE fixes this issue, and it seems to be a big issue! I tried rolling back the RealTek HD audio driver with NO fix, went to Cirrus Logic and they have NO drivers! It seems Apple switched the sound card and reversed the headphone audio with the Speaker audio! Headphones are TOO loud and speaker volume is TERRIBLE! I will buy again if they do an update with bootcamp to fix this problem! its like you are HARD of hearing in windows! What a horror..

Same problem here, bought it via Apple Online store and was happy to get it but the volume was really really soft on the speakers in Windows vista. Hope that Apple or some one here can find a solution asap, no music kills! And by the way has any one also encountered problems that the keyboard will not go off as in the back lit stays on even when i put it to the zero in windows and followed the help in boot camp by pressing F8 but nothing happens. Help pls to these two probs, these are the only two things making my mac pleasure not as good as expected.

Yes, In addition to the very low volume, I am having trouble with the keyboard lights. They seem to start at fully lit. I have to reduce them using the function key, but they never turn off completely.
Another issue seems to be that the screen brightness cannot be controled by the function keys on the windows side, but I don't know if this is irregular or not. The only way I have found to conrtol screen brightness is through the nVidia controls, but it doesn't seem to control the LED brightness as msuch as just darken the tone.
Help Apple, we clearly need driver updates!

Same problem here bought a new 15" Macbook Pro...installed vista 32 and bootcamp installed Cirrus Logic driver CS4206A. I get really low volume, and I am pretty convinced this is a driver issue.

Can I suggest that we all get on to Applecare about this issue. With brand new Macbooks we should all still be within the 90 day free period and this will highlight to Apple that an issue exists.

Would it be at all harmful to the system if I tried to install other on board audio drivers? I don't care about harm to my windows install, I only use it for recreation.

Apple system profiler claims its on board audio from an intel motherboard which suggests to me that the cirrus logic HD audio driver is just generic. I have no idea how to check this but was thinking of fooling about with intel updates in XP provided there's no great chance of hardware damage.

I have the same issue. The volume output is still usable but very low when compared to output under OS X Leopard. What is driving me crazy is the built in microphone. Vista detects it ok and it works in sound recorder. But in any other application (Audacity, Skype, Games), there is no sound from the built in microphone. Can anyone else confirm this issue?

I really hope better drivers are released. I am running Boot Camp 2.1 drivers from the install disc, but when I tried to download them again from apple just to be sure, I got a package error from the installer. Can anyone else confirm?
