Very Poor Volume Output - Windows XP

i bought my macbook in januari and i recently put windows xp SP2 on it using Bootcamp 3.0.1
everything looked fine untill i started to actually use it

1-the audio volume is very loud

2-backlight stays on unless i manually turn it off

3-THE MIC IS NOT WORKING

4-THE LINE IN (use in MP3) IS NOT WORKING

have you installed the sound driver by putting in the osx disc in when your in windows?
the disc has to be a original for it to work

i got a macbook pro, 2 weeks ago, the 2.53Ghz unibody aluminium, the desing of this mac is great even tough the system specs are really low for the price actually, im happy with it(the hardware)...

The only reason i got this is cause apple claims to support windows, i like Mac OS, but i work on windows i need it... if theres no windows capability in mac i wouldnt ever buy one, so this issue is really bothering me A LOT. my impresions about apple are changing after seing this topic filled with questions and not a single moderator answer, go and check a logitech forum and see how they take care about user problems.

I purchased my MBP in March 2010 and I have installed XP SP3 updated but have the same problems as stated by others:
1 THE AUDIO IS VERY LOW
2 KEYBOARD BACKLIGHT IS ON TILL I MANUALLY TURN IT OFF EACH TIME
3 THE INTERNAL MIC IS NON FUNCTIONAL
4 THE LINE IN PORT IS NON FUNCTIONAL
All these problems occur only in XP and not in Mac OS X. I thought they will be fixed when we apply the Bootcamp 3.1 update, but still remains the same. Has anyone contacted Apple support about this? Any ideas? There is a fix just to increase the Volume but unable to solve other issues.

_*+Problem solved+,_ I searched for hours to resolve this issue. I came across this site http://www.stuffedcow.net/macbook_audio and downloaded the file. I followed the instructions and the volume problem was fixed. So I suggest to you to visit this site and use your own discretion but it worked for me.*


As per a thread on Apple Discussions (Very Poor Volume Output - Windows XP), Apple/Cirrus Logic appears to have shipped incorrectly-configured drivers for the MacBook Pro's audio device in Windows XP. Windows Vista uses a different driver and has its own independent set of problems.

In the Windows XP driver, there are two causes of low audio volume:

1.The MacBook Pro has three speakers. The midrange speaker was not enabled.
2.The speaker amplifier gain is scaled by -16 dB in software, while the headphone amplifier gain isn't.
The modifications to the 1.0.0.13 driver addresses these two issues. (Aug. 8, 2009)

The driver also attempts to correct recording issues (1.0.0.13b, Oct. 27). When recording, depending on the sample rate used, the driver has been observed to up-sample the received audio, returning 2x or 4x as much data as an application expects, leading to distorted audio. Version 1.0.0.13b corrects two instances of buffer overruns in the driver, resulting in most sample rates working correctly.

I was trying to use VOIP via WebEx when I discovered the problem. My voice was so slowed down and distorted that it was unintelligible. Now, it works perfectly.

The fix given above fixes only the volume output and not the mic issues. I tried both the drivers: b and c. I am using win xp sp3. Any more ideas? Does the mic and audio work fine on vista or same issues there as well?

This issue still remains unresolved for Windows XP. I have a 2009 Unibody MacBook (white), and XP 32-bit SP3. The drivers in the latest bootcamp (3.1) cause the microphone not to work (zero volume).

The widely accepted compromise is to use the unofficial drivers at http://www.stuffedcow.net/macbook_audio. However, after installation, I have an eternal loop of echoing when the microphone is in use.

It's disappointing that this is simply a driver malfunction that has been partially fixed by the efforts of an amateur third party.

+1 for an official fix please Apple.

Ok thank you guys. This clears up any doubts I have about switching from my Thinkpad running OSX to a "real" Macbook pro (the hack convinced me to BUY a mac).. I was going to buy a macbook pro 13" tomorrow morning. I planned to use XP at work (I work faster in it) and Snow Leopard at home (for entertainment and personal work). I thought this was also a good way to separate my thought processes, work/fun, browsing history, files, etc.. I can't stand virtualization, Parallels 5 and Fusion 4 are just awful and do no OS any justice. So my plan was to use boot camp. Good thing thing I entered this forum... The fact that this post has 34 pages and started last year in June shows me the level of frustration with this problem and ALSO that Apple could care less about you people running Windows XP on apple hardware. Still no solution to some little driver issue due to new audio components when all it takes is an update driver fix. Wow, amazing... Thank you guys, you made my decision a lot easier, I will not buy a macbook pro tomorrow, and I will use some of that money I saved to get a new Thinkpad. Cheers

By the way, the current bootcamp xp has the 1.0.0.30 driver dated 12.03.2010, do you still recommend using the older 1.0.0.13c (Nov. 1, 2009) patched driver for low sound? (from the site http://www.stuffedcow.net/macbook_audio) ???

I followed the instructions in the Readme file, most importantly to install the drivers 100% manually, and all is working again!

I don't think I've ever taken so long to find a fix for any of macs...

Poor volume *problem fixed* in Windows XP SP3 after *uninstalling the audio drivers provided by apple and then installing the drivers from http://www.stuffedcow.net/macbook_audio* but this turned on the red led light in the headphone jack. Any solution for that?

problem with imac 27 inch with sound. i purchased my imac 27 inch two months ago and tryed loadeding windows xp sp2 with bootcamp 2.1 and bootcamp 2.2 and bootcamp 3 all loaded and i have two sound card drivers

i was trying to load up s game called burnout paradise for the pc
but it had no sound - so i played with the windows mixxer for winxp between the ati vrs cirrus logic - as to whixh driver is controlling sound.

after a lot of stuffing around - because the ati high def. driver wqanted to be active. i had to turn the driver off, could not roll it back , cause it would reinstall again

so i got god darm sound running in burnout paradise for the pc.

but behold the bloody mic would not work within the game for voip
let alone the frames per second were pathic with fssa 4x or 2x
even after turning fssa off the frame rate was pathic within burnout band everything was chunkky graphics compared to my nvida 8800 gts 640mb vram overclocked card , totally blew the imacs 27 inch - apple el cheap, maximum profit video card

ive now reloaded windows xp a seond time with just the bootcamp 3 drivers from the osx10 snow leopard dvd. and once again ati high def driver and cirrus logic

i now used a great program to detect the devices in the system called

OTHERWISE I HAVE TO SPEED 600 ON A NEW VIDEO CARD FOR MY PC TO GET MINI DISPLAY PORT OUTPUT FROM A ATI CARD TO PLAY BURNOUT FROM MY PC AND ONTO THE IMAC BUT WITH A NICE 3 MONITOR SETUP - IMAC 27INCH IN THE CENTRE AND MY TWO SAMSANG BLUR VISION 24 INCH AND 22INCH
