Safari Downloads Just Not Downloading.

Hi,

So first of all, to be clear this happened to me before I downloaded Safari 4 and has continued after.

It seems like all of the sudden every time I try to download something (be it an application, an .rar file from Rapidshare, a document from Gmail, anything) nothing happens. I get the window that says "Thank you your download should begin in less than 5 seconds if not click here". When I do click "here" once again nothing happens. I just sit there staring at my screen. Even when I downloaded Safari 4, the same exact thing happened and I sat there confused until I realized I could just do a software update. But thats besides the point. I am going nuts! Haven't been able to download a thing in days. Please help...

I'm on a Macbook 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo 3GB ram.

Macbook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 3GB 160GB, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Hi Barry. Thanks for the tip but I still am not able to download any file. I trashed the files you mentioned and restarted Safari only. That didn't work so I made sure the file was gone and restarted the computer. No luck. The file has not been recreated so if it is necessary its not there.

I tried an iCal file and a Widget from the Apple site. No luck. Still says the disk is too full.

Any other ideas?

Thanks hpr3. That didn't work either. I deleted that file, restarted Safari, and still no luck. That file has been recreated as I suspected it would be.

Do I need to restart the computer as well?

I don't have the same problem. The download folder opens and then I'm told the disk doesn't have enough space.

I CAN download from Firefox but that's not what I want to do. If you already have Firefox installed you might try that. Downloads perfectly. Its just a pain to copy and paste the url.

Hi, I'm having the same problem after upgrading to Safari 4. Clicking a download link does nothing. The Downloads window remains blank. Is this some sort of bug? I'm also using the Firefox workaround to download now.

Having the same problem here. I click on a download link and the URL loads but the download manager does not come up. I THINK it started to happen after I tried to reinstall Leech and that program it uses to hack into Safari so that Leech can have downloads redirected to it. (I wish I remembered the name of that program. . . something like SIMB I believe). Anyhow, I can't seem to download anything.

Yeah… Upgrading to SL caused this to happen to me. zips and dmgs aren't downloaded. Their URL just sits there… I have to Alt+Enter or drag it to Speed Download… *****…

After google for over an hour, the work around was found.

1. set the downloaded file location in the safari preference to desktop. then,
2. close safari, relaunch it.
3. try it, it can download files now.
4. then set the location of downloaded file to the location you want.
that it.

Although the problem has resolved, but I still can not turn off my anger.

I can't even download in firefox. It just randomly started last night for me and since then every download link i click on in either safari or firefox just sits there and hangs (safari will say opening 0 of 1 item and sit there). Does anyone have a solution? and yes, i'm running snow leopard.

awesome. found this thread because i'm having the same problems. got my snow leopard disc last week, it set up safari 4, and now any time i try to download a file Im taken to a dark blank screen and thats it.

i expect this kind of thing from windows, not my beloved Mac. Apple must know about this, right?

People with Speed Download on your Macs --

If you dowloaded this app and then decided not to pay for it or use it,
you need to UINSTALL it. Trashing it will only make it come back to bite you.
If you email the Yazoft people from their Speed Download site, they will email
you the Uninstaller.

the problem is with other applications trying to intercept the download...if you can find out which app' is doing this you should be able to turn this function off in it's preferences pane....or update the necessary software so it's Snow Leopard compatible! this should resolve the issue!

Thank you Neil for pointing out that SD 5.2.3 existed. I had version 5.0 and it said that this was up to date. Went to their website and downloaded 5.2.3.

Downloading works again.

Had same problem: any download, not only pdf's, would bring just a dark grey screen. Attempts to save were met with several messages, among them: can't export xx as yy (as if something had indeed been downloaded--don't know where though). No amount of cache, plist, plugin deletion, or app reset helped any.

My solution: Run Safari in 32-bit mode
Go to File-Get Info-General, and check Open in 32-bit mode
No problem since: Safari downloads everything just fine.

Delete the download.plist from Users/Your Username/Library/Safari.
